New Illarion Map

Post by Drathe »

I made a new map of Illarion, thats in keeping with the period of the game.
Its to scale and relitively accurate, give or take for artistic impression.

I tryed to include little things of intrest, if i have missed any that you think might be worth adding please post.

Feel free to use it only dont remove the sig and give credit where is due :)

Woohoo!

This map is great! I like the style of the background and the painting itself.
Looks like an ancient treasure map. Thank you, Drathe, great work.

@Drathe Great map! Very much in the medieval style with the reed background and all. I have a suggestion for you. Perhaps you could add some labels to the map written in the medieval style ( really fancy ). Like over the buildings that form Trollsbane, "Trollsbane" could be written and so on.

Wow! The map is awesome. I like the ancient background "look". Just one suggestion: you should put a key and a compass on it. :D

Very good. The only thing I see you left out is the little working hut to the north west of the demon cave.

Very impressive.

Also, the stone circle should be closer to the east in the clearing and little bit more south. You could also add the hedgemaze with the coffin where the sheep prowl if you like.

The southern river is called Troll's Vein and the northern river is called Fairy's Tears (spelling of fairy may vary  ). Better just stick to english on the map. They don't use exact german translations for the town names and such anyways as I understand it.

Aye, the rivers are Troll's Vein and Faerie's Tears. Faerie can be spelled various ways. Dictionary.com gives these spellings:

faerie, faery, fairy, fairies.

Whichever one seems most poetic to you I guess :)

Great work! I wished I would be as good as that in 2D graphics.
For the names stick with the English ones. There are no German translations used, as they would loose the "feeling" of the original ones.

PS: I noticed that the "lighthouse" ruin southwest of the spider cave is missing too,

I like the map , too. Great work. Looks a bit asian in the drawing style.

The two mazes of hedges are missing, too.
(the one around the cross in the north and the one in the south, where the sheeps are)

And by the way, if you add names, the town is spelled Troll's Bane.

There was the former king of the Ironhammer, Udan Trollbane. And to make a difference, the name of the town was decided to call Troll's Bane.
There is a really old topic in the RPG-B0ard (from about Juli 2001) about nameing the town.

@Separdum The sound and look of "faerie" I like. "Fairy" looks too childish..."fairy tales"...
Hm concerning this great new map I have an idea...perhaps in the future this map could be an item in illarion. It could be bought or made by tailors. A number of Rp uses for it come to my head...:)

Getting off topic:
The word faerie, refers to mythological creatures-often violent beings. Fairy refers to the disneyesque interpretation, such as TinkerBell.

Hi,
great work !!!
Today i found some "new" (for me!) details on the map.
Maybe you should add them.

1. a path at the eastend of the lagune... (very nice place)
2. something is "new" in the north... an island?...

farewell

Is the scale at the corner the size of a screen width? because if it is, that's a good idea.

And perhaps now you could add the small smith, names from buildings and areas, too?

So would be the map complete and we could use it officially.

But before we should think about the missing names oft some landscapes.

Yes, Troll's Vein runs through the town Troll's Bane, hence it's name.

Faerie's Tears runs South. In the history Faerie's lived in those woods north of town, hence the name Faerie's Tears.
