xxx xxx, is perhaps the most annoying spell ever. Anytime somebody tries to run away, somebody can keep casting xxx xxx on you with tons of mana potions, and do whatever the heck they want to you. Me being a semi-skilled figher, am tired of having to put up with this spell. Let's say, for example, a jerky mage attacks me at the mummy tomb. They can hide behind two shields, paralyze me, then hold me there while I'm sitting in a xxx xxx flame. I'm a druid! These days, being a strong figher or quick runner are skills that amount to zero when it comes to battling or fleeing mages.
I'm not saying that the spell should be trashed, but there should be a delay in which you can cast it again...

On the other hand, this spell is the only thing to make a NORMAL mage character being able to resist a fighter or monster - if the fighter or monster does not come into close distance before the mage can target him.
Of course, power-attributed fighter and mage characters can abuse the whole system. I agree that this is no fun, but we cannot tell everybody to create characters with senseful attribute values, if the whole system supports the idea behind the powergaming.
Additionally - if you had placed your attributes more naturally, you would have a "normal" Essence, that would help you in not becoming stunned too quickly by that spell.
When your character becomes older, he will also develop some magic resistance.

Yes Elaralith, but they don't need to constantly cast it on the enemy to get away...a few of them, and they're paralyzed for a good time to get a safe distance. If you feel so defenseless, wear two shields and get a decent parry.
I was trying to run away from an angry mob dozens of times, and I was caught once because a few annoying mages casted the paralysis spells on me left to right. I think it should be adjusted, to some point...

Wearing two shields is terrible rp for a mage and should be frowned upon. This is not a viable option to be accepted as a defensive strategy for a mage. In fact, it should be made impossible and one day if all goes well it will be. I think that this would be a better solution to your problem, Bloodhearte, if these sub-par mages (all mages actually but we’re talking about sub-par mages now) were unable to wear two shields then you would have a fighting chance against them. There are too many mages in the game now who wear two shields every second of the day or equip them at the first sign of danger while they claim to be using some other weapon.
Another matter that presents itself is that you don't have to start a fight with a mage if you know you're unable to defeat them. That's your own choice. If you chose to be in a fight with mages then you should start the fight while in very close proximity to them so you would be able to get the advantage in the fight. If they are unable to wear multiple shields and you are next to them you have the advantage if you strike first. The paralysis spell is their only defense in this situation and they would have to be very experienced with it for it to be effective, the sub-par mages would have no advantage. Now, if they attack you this is because of your characters role and you have to accept that with the territory, and if they attack you for bad reasons you can report them and it wont happen again. If a group of mages attacks you then of course you’re going to lose unless you’re a very experienced fighter. They’re mages and have the power of magic in their fingers and you’re not.
In closing, the paralysis spell shouldn't be adjusted but the ability to wear two shields as a mage should be taken away. The new weight system limits the amount of potions they can carry as well as the armor that they can wear and still be at their full potential in many but not all cases. There is still work that needs to be done to make wearing two shields and casting spells impossible.
As Damien said, your character attributes are partly to blame for your paralysis defenselessness and your magic resistance as well. With time you will not be as susceptible to such spells but it does take time. It does not take powergaming! It takes time and patience.

I understand what you're saying, Niniane. However, it takes astronomical amounts of time to find a good mage and have him raise your magic resistance. I don't want to powergame, so I refrain from that. It will take a long time to raise, though...
And I'm talking about running. If I'm trying to run away from a nosey, annoying mage, he'll paralyze me and throw me in a blue flame. That isn't very fair.

Another problem with 'the spell' is that it tends to encourage certain people to power game. I am going to attempt to state once again, there is NO reason two mages should be blasting away at each other with spells. Any excuses about people dueling to improve their prowess are totally invalid. When a mage casts a spell on another mage, the result is physical pain. As is a fighter punching another fighter. I can imagine one, or even three rounds of such abuse, but any more would be far too painful.

Stop impying insults, Elaralith. You know very well he was not referring to only doing this. But it IS practical that a mage should have decent parry. And I would not even begin to accuse or suggest that certain people use two shields because I know you use two shields. So who needs the review now?Elaralith wrote:((Bloodhearte, If you think wearing two shields and raising your parry is what a mage should do to defend him/her self then you need to review your roleplaying skills.))
