Suggestion on how to do Rain/Snow/other

Post by Kringin »

I would say to have a picture about the size of the gameplay area and that picture has every other pixel black or grey and the rest the masking color. And another layer which has animated rain picture. I would make this but I seem to be busy.

That would seem to be a little hard to do. Perhaps it could happen though. Of course, they don't use graphics when it is snowing and such. I think they have only put in simple descriptions in the past haven't they? A simple, "You feel a mist blow through your way." I remember a message that sounded something like that a long time ago. Am I right? Or was I dreaming?

To do snow the way it would be done would require them to make make each tile twice, once without snow, once with. Then it would show the one with snow when it was snowing, etc...

It seems like a whole lot of work for a little payback, and I think that I wouldn't want them to work on this right now as there are many other things that take time that would have payback.

Such as character animations for attacking, which would probably require totally new graphics for each of the characters, probably even more work.

Or for them to finish what they are doing on the maps so we can have more places to go.

etc...

The result of this is not very pretty to look at. I would go with having small pictures of the weather conditions in the top right corner (like a snowflake, sun, or raindrop).

yea weather would be pretty nice, adn the regular tiles can change to, like to snow tiles, and snow can build up near walls and stuff, and you can use the tiles and make snowballs and have snowball fights

Gee if I only knew how you guys have te direct X stuff working If I had more of an understanding I would be able to give better Ideas.

All I said was to smack alternating black and maskcolor pixel pic and another animated layer IF possible, but oh well.

If I remember right, weather was discussed in another topic and the result there was, that making a grafically system would be to complicate due to the grafics and the time, which is needed for other things.
But as possibel was considered to have a textbased notice on the right side, where weather is shown. Also there should be shown ( if the translationratio is rebuild) the Illarion date and time.

Hmm snow is a bit harder to make then rain, I think, and it would probably make a game slower on old computers. Nice idea though.

The origonal idea would look bad what they could do is use an alpha-transperent setting mask for the times of day and have an random raindrop maker and snow maker for the weather conditions.

Sorry if it wasn't clera but i'm half asleep.
