Major question...

Post by Bloodhearte »

I made an attempt to create a new character, and have decided for his occupation to be a murderer. Would it be all right to make clear of who your target is, and then make an attempt to kill rather than just butchering randomly (of course, making sure that I'm roleplaying and not breaking server rules) I just thought it would be interesting to have a killer in the world of Illarion...

We have enough persons which play uselessly, more redundantly murderer; with the opinion that a good roleplay for a murderer is to write once "#me ....sentence" and then follow the attack with two hits and the victim is dead.

Yeah one more, please!

occupation = murderer?

This is nonsense and lacks any RP. Better become an assassin.

Try to get as famous, rather infamous, as the Dan-family...
Do it in a RP way and not by claiming that you´re the insane murderer that kills everybody at sight. Such people don´t live long in Troll´s Bane. Dungeons are deep and a pyre is hot.

Really?

Gasp!

Looks around...

No, I don't see or know anybody that holds 'murderer' as their occupation...

It COULD be roleplaying...why? Because you're taking the role of a murderer. It's not like I'm going to walk up to any old schmoe and wail on him or her with a firesword. It would be something like: #me leers at the helpless elf, drawing his blade and grinning in a sinister manner...

I would also know the name of the victim, not just attack because I see him/her.

Assassins usually do it for hire, but there aren't many people that offer hired jobs these days. This one is just a bit more funner :)

So what reason is there to have an occupation "murderer", when he is not doing it for money / is not for hire?
In my opinion, it is no occupation then. And if you are murdering people in your spare time, I can't think of a reason to do this regulary, but if you have a RP reason, go ahead.

you would have to go for a certain type of person... Most murderers that killed a lot killed the same type of person. e.g. Manson (right person?) killed young college aged women.

Eh. Manson is only a very random selection from the many... A character like that in Illarion would be completely lost. I don't think they had colleges back them, let alone would they have allowed women to go to college.

You could be a religious fanatic bent on dominating Illarion and publicly vow to kill all who refuse to worship your god...

I was already killed by some hobbits the other day. I agree with Bror. If you are going to kill just to eat up time, then don't do it. I remember awhile ago, there were two humans who kept attacking for no reason. Really, I don't mind if there were a killer in Illarion. I'm saying, if this killer were to kill anyone that it encounters, then that would be pointless and annoying. There are lots of people who worked hard on their skills, and wouldn't want to lose most of their skill because a killer felt like killing someone. Not everyone is good at combat.

in reallife there are killers who kill for no reasons. In Illarion there are killers who kill for their god. In real life you would be dead, be happy you only lose skill in illarion... they could make your character die permanently if they wanted it to be really real.

In real life it is easy to get caught for killing. In Illarion it is easy to get away with it. I think that killing should be kept to a bare minnimum until some kind of patrol or law enforcement is set up in Illarion.

Crocket, in the dark ages, murderers were never caught. To try and make teh statement that because nowadays killers are always caught then killers in Illarion should be caught is ridiculous. The best you could get back then is hope the plague got the killer.

If you don't want other people to compare real life to Illarion life than don't do so yourself. Also don't call my posts, or anyone elses for that matter, ridiculous. Thank You.

I'm saying that this game is in the dark ages and no one ever found out who killed who because of the lack of organization and the plague. In Illarion you have a better chance of finding out who killed who.

How is plague involved with this? I think that the people in middleages could surely recognize wether someone was stabbed or died to the plague.

Also the methods of catching the criminals were quite different than nowdays, a suspected murder weapon was in most cases more than enough for jaliling/hanging the person.
But also the risk when doing a crime was also a lot higher, because If/when you were caught, you could be jailed/mutilated/killed without a secound thought.

Imagine how many innoncents are waiting for execution today, so I wouldn't counting on 'Organization' and high technology that much anyways.

I don't think many innocents are on deathrow today...
back on topic, the point is killing should be legal, otherwise assasins such as Xerake, or sacrifices for peoples gods like Moshran wouldn't be possible. It does suck for the person who dies, but you must have constant vigilance.

The point is, that you can't kill just for the killing itself. Its no roleplay reason, you might have fun but it would ruin the game for the rest of players.

(Was it in Minnesota where the governor decided to cease the execution of deathsentences when he found out that 13/20 of those prisoners were actually innoncent..)

The thing I don't like

Post by Khalime »

The thing I dont like about this killing business is that a person, whoever, may kill someone and then leave the game.. If noone could get their number, then they are not too easily found. But to compare this to real life, as I believe it somewhat should be, I guess a killer wouldnt normally be easily found out either...

Dont forget we also have a small population. Even today, in real life, murder is not that common in relation to the size of population. With the population of Trollsbane murder would be a rare thing. As for sacrifices you would need to make sure there is some sort of ceromony. Just walking up to someone and whacking them with a sword is not a "typical" way to sacrifice someone to a God.
