Try reducing the frame rate from options, 13 (or 10 can't remember) is the lowest it can go. Might be less of a strain on your CPU

This happens to me also. I've reduced the frame rate without any change. I'll play for a while and then the whole game just freezes and I have to ctrl-alt-del. I don't know alot about computers but mine is only a few months old, bought new and supposed to be top-of-the line. Sometimes the freeze happens only after 10-15 minutes. Other times immediately upon login or after 30 seconds or so. All criters and things freeze (total client freeze). It happens much more often during fights with many opponents.

oh and this never happened with the old client that wasn't java. What happened to that?

Also I use xp now instead of vista

1) Check whether the java virtual machine is updated
2) Check whether you have the latest drivers for the graphics card

Otherwise, yes there's a bug with the graphics part of the client.

The old client got scrapped. This is 2009 and even our current client is not up to date. The old one was state of the art in 2001 for a spare time project of students.

If the problem persists and it is not due to server lag (everybody around you should suffer from the same problems, then), do what the poster above recommended. When you have a recent computer, you should not play around with the settings too much, won't help, usually - the default settings work quite fine for computers back from 2001 or so...
