Gna, I give up. My client freezes after around 20 minutes each time I play Illa.

I use a wlan router to connect to the internet. When connecting my computer directly to the modem, the problem did not occur (until now). Any help...?[/code]

If it helps I never had a problem with my wireless WLAN

If it also helps, the error was probably thrown by part of the code on purpose, since to my knowledge SocketFactory throws security or IOExceptions (I could be very wrong).

So I think one of the java devs will be able to answer that.

Probably.
I've Zone Alarm 8.0 and of course, the router has its own firewall, too. Java-stuff is allowed by Zone Alarm to access the internet and I can play Illarion. However, I seem to lose connection to the server somehow.

I use zone alarm as well, I think it might be because your wireless is set as your 'public' zone so it protects itself if you're somewhere in public.

Try setting the security a bit less, check that java RTE is allowed access to the internet, failing that try to use 'game mode' to allow all access.

The problem had nothing to do with a firewall.

My router had some totally retarded default settings that made it disconnect from teh interwebz once in a while. At least this is the state of investigations and after changing the settings, I encountered no problems anymore.

However, it would have been much, much nicer when the client shows a message like "Connection to Server lost

" instead of java.net.StinkySocketException.

Hmh, a socket exception usually means that something in the connection to the other device has gone wrong.
Of course with Java, one never knows if the exception occured on a socket that may just connect with another process on localhost ? *g*
Evil Java !
A "connection to server lost" message would indeed be useful.
