By the way it was a topic on non RP'ing thieves.I came across something interesting ingame. A thief stole an item and evaded capture for ten minutes within the town limits. When the thief was caught they wouldn't give back the item as they claimed not to have it. I actually witnessed the storing of the item due to the fact they used a #me stores "The item" at the bottom of "their" depot, type message. The victim was all for killing the thief but I must admit the thief had a point. If you evade capture for a certain amount of time it is more than likely that the item would be hidden away.
So my questions are, what do you all think of this? What would be a reasonable time limit? And last but not least how do you "catch" a thief so it's fair to both parties? I hope this isn't seen as hijacking the topic, I just thought it relevant. Oh and it all ended nicely with no blood, though more by luck than judgement.
thief questions.

thief questions.
In another thread I posed these questions but they didnt really get answered. Partly I think because the thread was almost dead.

Well, what exactly was your question?
Would the victum be allowed to kill the thief? There's nothing stopping that in the rules that I see. The theif did something to the victum that the victum didn't like, and had an RP reason to kill him for it, no matter if he got the stolen item back or not.
Would the thief have to give the item back? Well, even if the victum killed it, the thief had an RP reason not to have the item on him, he put it in his depot. A depot seems to be a special magic thing that only the owner can get into.
I understand that if a thief is killed the reason the thief has to give the item back is because it's RP of the victum simply taking the item off the thief's body. But there is no RP way someone can get into someone else's depot (I don't think).

Sorry for not being clear. My questions were, do other people think that if a thief evades capture for a length of time the item should be considered hidden and therefore not recoverable? If so what would be a reasonable amount of time? How do you "catch" a thief that is fair to both parties? I don't think death is a good way of "catching" a thief.

I don't think merely catching up with a criminal is a good reason for them to give something back, realistically you would have to grab them, then they could hit you and you let go and all sorts happen. You should find them and if they dont want to give back the item, kill them, or they should be put in jail...
@ Frendrack, congrats on your new job, I have a pretty new one too

I think that there should be a way to loot a person who is unconcious or dead. That way if you catch a thief and kill them you could just take the item back. If they have already hidden the item you could take some of their stuff.
I know this could cause problems with player killing. If someone kills another, weather thief or not, then they could loot the body and take all of a newbies items.
But wouldn't that be a lot more realistic?
