name check
i propose a very simple addition to the current one. instead of just checking against names already in use it should also skim a list of known bad names that have already been used aka from the bad names thread. essentially this list would block almost any bad name a newbie could think of meaning we don't have to do as much work. the longer it is around the less work to do. i would like to note i do not think this it is a good idea to remove newbies from the online list. with this list anyone can help see bad names and report them. with this change only gm's or people who encounter this name IG.

Re: name check
Firstly, searching a list is quite computer intensive, because it needs to be kept sorted.
Secondly, I don't think that you could actually blacklist EVERY SINGLE NAME possible, which makes this quite useless.
For example:
Cool Fighter
CoolFighter
FighterCool
CooolFighter
Coool Fighter
are 5 different names.
Unless of course you search for the subtext, then it'll be even more CPU intensive.

Re: name check
I agree most players COULD circumvent those names if they really wanted but how many WOULD? The pop-up if it could be programmed with the main names right when a player tries to make a char, would basically stop a player from making a char until they read the name rules. It would be for those trying to jump ig without reading anything on the site which IMO is much of the problems with the original names.Hadrian_Abela wrote:Firstly, searching a list is quite computer intensive, because it needs to be kept sorted.

The advantage of this pop-up would be pointing the player to some of the rules, but mainly it would circumvent the player from having problems AFTER already playing their char and becoming interested in it.
