The stranger ((open rp))

Post by Larien. »

The elfess sat silently on the rock, idly picking the few grapes left on the vine and popping them into her mouth one by one. Chewing thoughtfully, she turns her light blue eyes across the bridge to the town gate. I hope someone comes along soon...is the thought running through her head, one hand lightly gripping the blade at her hip. Tossing the rest of the grapes to the ground, she reaches up to adjust the hood of her black cloak, pulling it low and hiding her deep auburn hair. A seemingly relaxed expression is on her pale, perfect face, hiding her true thoughts.

A guessing game of who will come next, the one she plays while waiting for passersby, is the only way to keep her muscles relaxed and ready. A man...tall and...light haired, maybe.

The town gates creak open, and a tall, broadshouldered figure, swathed in a hooded cloak limps out, a tree-branch under his arm serving as a crutch. He makes his way across the stone path, travelling at a deliberate, slow pace, before coming to a halt by the bridge. The figure surveys the person blocking his path, leaning on the crutch a little, only his mouth viewable behind the hood. That same mouth slowly forms the shape of a growl, emiting a deep, animalistic sound.

'Out of my way.. female.'

His voice is course and low. He produces a wooden pipe and lifts it to his mouth, his one good eye narrowed from behind the hood.

The elfess looks him over slowly, carelessly even, her face calm. Absently playing with a buckle on one of the many straps crisscrossing her midsection, she tilts her head up to look him in the eye, an amused glint in her own blue eyes, "I'm afraid I don't scare that easily...male." Moving quickly, she aims a kick at his crutch, trying to knock him to his knees while sliding a wicked curved blade from its sheath at the same time and pointing it to his throat. She speaks in a low, hard voice, "Now, how about you empty your pockets for me, hmm?"

The figure gives a gasp of pain at the kick, dropping to his knees, the crutch clattering onto the floor. He grimaces, holding his lower regions and kneeling in front of the elfess, before slowly turning his head to face the blade at his neck. He grunts at it, his expression behind the mask set in a grimace.

'Bugger.. off..' He manages a wolfish grin, pressing his neck against the steel as he turns to her.

The elfess cocks her head to the side, her expression wavering slightly as she realizes perhaps he wouldn't be such an easy target, an odd sort of respect developing even as she presses the blade harder to his neck, drawing a bit of blood and lowering her voice to an almost inaudible, forceful tone, "Perhaps you didn't hear me. Empty your pockets, or I take your head." She tightens her grip on the blade, her knuckles whitening, regaining her controlled, hard expression.

A stony silence fills the air after her words, punctuated by the figure's audible, slightly rasping breathing. A drop of red blood dropped onto the snow, and he gave a slow, deep chuckle, not making any viewable movements.

'So take.. my head. How long do you think a lone maverick.. such as yourself.. will survive like this?'

The figure growled softly, and slowly lifted a gloved hand towards the blade by his neck, and resting his palm against the edge if allowed. He speaks softly, so the words can barely be heard.

'How about.. you lower your blade.. and listen.. to an alternative?'

He grinned up at her, his mouth widening to reveal two sharpened canines painted purple.

The elfess hesitates, cocking her head again at his words. She presses the steel into his neck again before backing off, nodding once, and sheathing the blade. "Speak quickly then, for I have little patience. Your words have the ring of truth, but I have survived this long on my own, so any argument had better be very convincing." She stands looking down at him, her hands on her hilts, her expression stony, ready for any sudden movement.

It had been a pretty slow night for her first one back on the island in nearly three years. The streets had been filled of the usual petty beggars and nobles alike, something that would have never dared been allowed back on the mainlands. Laughing softly to herself beneath the thin hood of her cloak, which was dusted with some late-night snow, the woman treaded through the gates boredly. She had plans for the tavern, at this particular moment, the thought of a warm fire and strong ale filling her mildly wearied mind eagerly.

A shame it seemed that a little drama was taking place on the bridge she needed to pass. Humming softly as her brown eyes flick to the two figures, one being a woman with a blade to the male's throat, she could not help the look of interest that ran over her face. Here, here, was this a robbery taking place? How cute. Grinning slowly, she wandered forward and let a hand drift around the back of the tall male figure carelessly as she stepped up. Her eyes lifted, answering the male's question familiarly, as if she had known him for a long while.

"No lone maverick will last long, as sloppy as she does this. Shame, dear."

She spoke to the elfess as she said these teasing words, her dark eyes glittering daringly and with an amusement that seemed hardly placed in such a situation she stood in now. Falling silent afterward, the woman tilted her head aside with a giggle, as if patiently awaiting the explanation of this 'alternative' that was in no way directed to her.

The elfess lifts her eyes to the woman, giving her a brief, icy stare before returning her gaze on the figure kneeling before her, waiting for him to speak.

The figure nodded approvingly as the elfess sheaved her blade, moistening his lower lip with his tongue, remaining in his kneeling position in front of the bridge, making no attempt to get up. He appeared about to speak again, when he stiffened at a foreign hand on his back, growling instinctively. He didnt bother to turn though, staying completely still as a female voice made itself heard.

He waited for whoever it was to finish speaking, before taking the rim of his hood in his left hand, and pulling it upwards, letting his wiry black hair fall to his shoulders. He had a strong, pointed face, with faintly elven features, and the signs of a recent mauling. His left eye was closed, a purple, swollen mess, while cuts and bruises flecked the rest of it, all only partially healed. Slowly, and slightly unsteadily, he stood up, towering over the two females. After letting his good eye; a dark green with a glint, fix itself on the elfess, he gave a grunt, speaking in a hoarse, low tone.

'We care not for laws. We care not for knights. We care not for morals. We do care for people like you.. as naive as you may be.. elfess.'

Then, he turned his face towards the person behind him, speaking quicker, harsher.

'Who are you..?'

The elfess steps back again, allowing him to rise. She glances once to the woman, giving her another icy stare then turns back to the elf. "Do not think I take pity of you for your injuries, but I am interested in what you may have to offer. Shall we go somewhere a bit warmer and speak?" She glances to the woman again, adding, "Privately."

It was expected, the way the strange figure that she had rested a hand upon to tense at the unfamiliar touch. It made her grin with sadistic mirth as her hand drifted down before falling away completely. Her arms lifted to cross over her chest lazily, watching the male pull away his hood slowly. The elfess, by now, was given no real attention thus her stoney gazes went unnoticed and unbothered. Listening intently to the growled words the male figure spoke, the woman could not help a quiet laugh that faded into the cold breezes that rushed down between the buildings that shadowed the path. Letting the laugh die away as the male turned to her in all of his evil harshness, she let a smirk touch her lips.

"If you prefer typical secrecy, just call me a friend. I go by Laine, most of the time, however."

Winking at the male that looked at her, sheer carelessness about her in response to his mauled looks, the woman gave a quiet and condescending tut at the elven woman's words.

"There is no such thing as privacy, dear, I would think a little thief would know that. Besides, perhaps I am equally as interested in what this lovely man has to say."

A sweet smile was promptly flashed to the elfess as her eyes drifted back to the male she stood next to, her dark brown eyes glinting amusedly. Before a word of her barging in could be said, she gave another quiet laugh.

"Take what opportunities are handed, after all, right?"

The elfess stands quietly, her ears tuned for the sound of any approaching footsteps as she listens to the woman speak. Her sharp eyes roam over the woman slowly beginning to form her own opinion of her. Her hand fiddles with a buckle on one of the straps around her midsection absently, keeping her hot tempered words tightly tamped down and allowing the elf to speak.

((may as well play out the scene))

The figure appeared surprised by the woman's words, his face twisting into a more thoughtful expression. He turned his neck, checking to make sure no foreign ears were close, before pressing a closed, gloved fist into his other hand, squeezing it as he decided what to do. He produced a wooden pipe, lit it and blew some smoke casually into the woman's face.

'You speak honeyed words Laine.. but that honey may be poisoned. The elfess is a simple theif i know.. but you?'

He growled, turning round and lowering his head, so his eyes were almost level with hers, the strong smell of sibanac thick around them.

'With you.. things are less.. clear.'

The strange man seemed to be taking to her quite well, now didn't he? The tilted and jester-like smirk teasing her lips at the corner remained indefinitely as the male turned with pipe in hand. Her chin turned aside as the smoke was blown forth into her face, though there was no look of distaste at the stench of burning sibanac. Instead, the woman giggled once more quietly, drawing her bottom lip between her teeth in a careful bite.

"Yes, I enjoy living quite the opaque life. Perhaps I am merely another simple thief, hm? No matter what I tell you, there's no guarantee that it's not a lie."

She spoke quietly and in a measured but lighthearted voice as her dark eyes rested on the man's own evenly. At her reply, her lips curled up into a broader, more prominent sneer as she patiently watched his expression for any particular reaction.

"Now what is this offered up opportunity you spoke of, dear?"

The figure grunted, fixing the woman with a stare, his breathing slightly rasping, before he chuckled softly.

'An interesting.. persona.. you've got there miss.. laine.'

Then he lowered his head, his lips, which held fresh cuts moving as he spoke in such a low tone that only she could here.

'Follow me if you want to learn more.. only do it from i distance.'

He gave a growl, lifting his shaggy head and turning away from her, lifting his hood and taking up his crutch once more. He moved slowly over the bridge with elfess following behind, walking off into the night without looking round.
