stealing
what do the rules say concerning someone stealing the loot from monsters which another character has killed.
I had killed a zombie and before I could get the sword and entrails someone came by and grabbed them. I followed them and they went to a depot and then logged out, before I could say anything.
Is this against the rules or was I just the victim of a sorry, low-life thief.

On another note, I was playing as Fortinbris, an older character of mine...he used to be a master blacksmith, mage, and fighter. After being able to kill trolls easily for a good while, you *assume* you would be decent with skeletons. So I tried the skeleton forest with an old friend of mine...I died, he couldn't revive me, and I had to walk aaall the way up north to the cross (I'm not sure if a cross was east of there or not, but it was still far away) and with my laggy connection and slow moving...I managed to get to the cross, to find out that a year of work has been flushed down the tube. I barely play as Fortinbris anymore, and I just roleplay as him being evil (it's tough being a good evil character when you're a weakling compared to everybody else). Roleplaying is fun, but I would go to a roleplaying chatroom on AOL if I only wanted to do that...

Well people that do not truly want to roleplay cannot really be stopped from doing the things they do. Anything the illarion staff (and anyone else) does can only help the good roleplayers do better; it's pretty much impossible to force a person who is determined to not roleplay to do otherwise. People that are intent on worrying about their skills will do so whether or not there are bars.
I as a real person know without a doubt how skilled I am at driving, writing, drawing, or any other skill that I may or may not have.
I do not have to draw a picture to see if I am skilled at it or not.
We cannot FEEL what the characters feel therefore we have no way of knowing if we can kill a zombie or not until we try. But in reality the character knows without a doubt how skilled they are (just as we do).
Why would they TRY IT OUT on a zombie if they know they are not skilled enough.
The bars just tell us, the players, what the characters already know.

You don't really have bars that tell you how skilled you are at say drawing in RL. You just have a shady vague idea of your skill, and must try out drawing before you have a clearer idea. It is the same in illarion with the "brightening letters". You have a vague idea of how skilled you are in something, but must try it out to get a clearer picture.

That isnt quite true, Elaralith. I know you probably think that I am just arguing with you to argue, and if you think that, its your problem. My reason for argument is that I know how skilled I am in almost every skill I have ever attempted. Most people do. I know that I am fairly good at drawing, good with computers, bad with math, and so on and so forth. I know whether or not I am capable of painting a beautiful landscape, or sketching the picture of a pirate with a parrot perched on his shoulder. Both would be difficult, but I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I either can or cannot do them. (I can do the pirate, not the landscape). OF course, you do not have a real red bar in real life, but you know, you dont have a menu in your pocket of every skill you have tried either. To a degree, I can see how have a bar is just a nuisance to RP, but also I know how good it is and relaxing it is to see that I havent lost a lot of skill from dying, rather than being paranoid about losing a lot and spending the next 2 months trying to regain skill I didnt really lose. I could go on, but I can see when my point has been made, therefore there is no point to continue. I hope that you HONESTLY see my point rather than twisting my words in your mind, as you have done in the past. I have no intention of quarreling with you here, so if you start, or take anything here offensive, private message me. Don't whine here. Thank you and good evening.

[EDIT: Continuation of flame war. Responding to someone's flame]
@Cain Please stop with your antagonizing posts that are of the base intent of starting flame wars and quarrels that upset threads. Your post was fine till the end when you succumbed to your temptations of flaming by implying that I 'whine' and 'twist words' which I obviously do not.
And I I think the symbols for skill levels in illarion are fine. They resemble what is in your mind in RL: A vague picture of your skill level.

I thought about that one all day, and I believe you proved your point well because I couldn't come up with a counter.Elaralith wrote:You don't really have bars that tell you how skilled you are at say drawing in RL. In order to know how well I can draw I have to actually draw a picture to see how good I am at it.
After thinking on it some more I see your point.

But about the skill dropping. If I get resurected right away do I still loose a lot of skill, or just if I am out for a long period of time?
@Crocket
The way that skill loss through death works (as was explained on another thread) was that the moment you die you suffer the major part of skill loss. Then as time passes your skills will gradually fall until you are brought back to life. Time is much less a factor than the initial skill loss unless of course you decide to take a tour of the island while a ghost (which I have done with another character to test skill loss
) You don't need to panic too much when you're a ghost but you do need to be healed as soon as you're able. The next time you die, if you wish to learn how much time affects your skill loss just watch your bars change color (in the past you could watch the bar decline but now it's the color system and I don't know if this will actually work so take that advice with a grain of salt! A few grains actually
) The remainder of the skill loss was brought about by the initial death.

[EDIT: Resumption of full blown flame war. Posts by either of these that are flames are deleted in this thread. Both warned.]
See this folks? This is PROOF that I did NOTHING to her, yet she accuses me without thinking. All I did was offer advice and a little insight, anyone who read my post knows that.Elaralith wrote:@Cain Please stop with your antagonizing posts that are of the base intent of starting flame wars and quarrels that upset threads.
