School of Ninjutsu
Within time, I'll be establishing an Illarion School of Ninjutsu and Stealth. Members must be chosen by me, personally (like other guilds or schools), and they will be taught many methods of fighting quickly and quietly (of course).
There will be exams for students, and maybe I'll think about making an ingot a day salary for members. Just something on the side.
Any suggestions? This may not happen in a few days, weeks, or months.

Hmmm I do not approve of fighting, and less so the arts of fighting that have to do with that act of assassination. But some knowledge I would impart to you...It is spelled "Ninjitsu", and is the japanese martial arts form learned by ninja's long ago for assassination. I would ask you why do you wish to start such a school. Do you have any ulterior motives in mind other than gaining money?
According to the Kogha tradition, actually, it's spelled "Ninjutsu." Either way is correct, although Iga is questionable.
I'm aware that it's a school of assassination, but there are some that don't find this to be...how do I say...bad.
After all, I always wanted students.
I also wish to start this school because it can be useful to some. We have an aim far from the Rangers, but innocents have been suffering lately while others are reluctant to help. So that may be an advantage. It was just a thought, but the main purpose is just to teach.
Ninjutsu also died out around the end of the 17th century. If this game is based on the middle ages, then it would make sense to bring a strange art from the same time era, although it isn't as popular as chivalry.
Phew...

@Hermie, I think you horribly misunderstood my question. I would not have asked that question if the answer was already in Xerake's post. Obviously, the answer I was looking for was not in his first post!
@Shi Long I was just about to say that...Ninjitsu has not died out and is still practiced as a martial art form just as karate is practiced. Only Ninjitsu is not so popular anymore.
@Xerake Just be careful you don't cross the line between roleplaying a guild of assassins, and becoming a guild of PKers.

I doubt it will be full of PKers. They are not going to just fight. This was like the idea for the training hall in Silberbrand, when it was first decided. Some thought that it would be a place where a bunch of dwarfs killed each other for training. Some thought it would just be like powergaming. Others thought that the abuse of the training hall, would lead others to kill others as well. However, I doubt that the school will just be full of killing.
Randelf, Ninjitsu is the Japanese martial discipline of assassination. This is a School for assassins. Murdering others for a price/reason is a legitimate RP reason, but just randomly butchering people is not. From my observations on other players, I have noticed that for most it is all too easy to cross from killing someone for a RP reason and murdering them for no RP reason.
...
As for the spellings of KogHa and NinjUtsu, they're accurate. They're both valid spellings, if you search any site or read any book. There is no direct translation for Japanese to English.
And this isn't going to be PK central. We study other things as well, but this doesn't mean we're breeding butchers. People who kill without reason won't be tolerated.
The throwing stars are a good idea too, never thought about it...thanks though

When I say 'died out,' I mean that ninja aren't used for military operations anymore. It's still taught, that's true.Elaralith wrote:@Hermie, I think you horribly misunderstood my question. And I'm being VERY careful about getting a guild of PKers. I can already sense what's going to happen...there may be idiots who kill for no reason, then claim to be a part of my clan. You'll know who is and isn't as I already mentioned; those who kill without reason shall not be tolerated.
@Xerake, True there are no direct translation in spelling from Japanese to English, but there are the more commonly used spellings. In english the Japanese martial art of assassination is more commonly spelled as "NinjItsu" rather than "NinjUtsu". I don't know about Koga/Kogha. I am glad to hear that you will not be tolerating PKs. I sincerely hope that this guild will not crumble into the lowness of PKing without reason.
As for soldiers not being trained in Ninjitsu anymore...Who knows? Military functions are government matters and kept confidential...How can you say for sure that Ninjitsu is no longer taught to soldiers unless you are a government official? I would think that it is still taught...in modern warfare although we have all these new technologies like guns sometimes it still comes to do close combat.

I can assure you that this will NOT become a PK central, although I've heard of guilds gone bad...this is more of a clan, a school...I can't honestly say that they're not used in military operations any longer due to the secret nature of ninja. But why have men trying hard to kill with a poisoned shuriken rather than a pistol with a silencer these days? You could be right though. Anybody interested? I'm still trying to come up with ideas for test, the web site, etc.
Hm...
You sound like a potential member, although Orcs are stereotypically slow. But that's a barrier you should be able to pass easily...
Mixing poison is especially a plus in our school. Is there a skill that involves applying the poison, or is there a 50/50 chance of failing? I've been able to fill in potions lately, though failure is something I'm used to.
Mages would be good, but they're not the best for this school as compared to the all powerful druid.
Ranged weaponry skill is also great too. I'll see what I can do for tests, then contact you later Grobul.

Does the population of Illarion really want a fair number of people trained in the arts of assination and poison making? Xerake told me himself, he kills people for money, so what he is really making is a group of mercenaries. I won't stand for such a group, as the whole point is to kill people for money, unless Xerake stats a reason beyond that. So far this just looks like a pk clan with the roleplaying of mercs.

I just noticed that you posted that last message, Bumbol...
And it doesn't matter of 'the people of Illarion' want it or not. They don't want a thieves guild, but it's been around.
And there's nothing wrong with killing for hire, especially if there's a valid reason. We are not 'pk'ers either. Before thinking you're an expert on a school that you'll never understand, I'll have you know that we're also trained in philosophy and reasoning. Also, there are GREAT escape technique's that I teach, something that ninja do. Ninja aren't just ones to go around chopping heads off, there were even mission where they would go and steal an object and use inventions and techniques to escape; face to face, it's called Aikido created by a peaceful Buddhist after meditation.
Why are you so upset anyway? You should've known in the first place that Ninjutsu is an art of stealth and assassination...

the point is this guild should be frowned upon, like the theives guild. Personally I don't like the idea of a newer player only 1 month in or so running around after you've trained um have the skills to kill people who aren't wary and are doing things like mining and smithing and don't have their armor on. Can you garentee that all of your students will be prefectly disciplined and won't go on a killing spree?
The Japanese government used them frequently during the major Tokugawa periods, yet it wasn't frowned upon...
I understand your intentions are good, but you can't judge something you don't understand. First, I don't know any player that's good at battle in only a month...second, they must be disciplined or I'll kill them myself, make them pay restitution for total paid ingots, then they won't be part of my school.
Again, you misunderstand...we just won't have people running around killing innocents. They will ONLY be killed if they're seen as a threat or if they've done injustice to another player that's paying us.
By the way, they don't have to be trained to go on a killing spree...anybody can do it, regardless of whether they're part of the clan or not. That proves that this school will focus on more than combat. Remember what Grishnak said? "They're not warriors, they do not participate in battles. They're solitary assassins."

but them being solitary assassins is big problem because they can just attack people alone, but nevertheless, i hope yoru guild the best of luck. Though i do not liek its intentions and you will always here my character saying how it is bad ingame (he hates people who disturb the peace) i hope you can make this clan sucessful.
