The Value of Gold
Greetings!
Something that concerns me highly is the low value of gold in illarion...In the medieval ages even one gold piece was highly valued and could purchase much! Gold coins are scorned in illarion at this time and that is a sad and unrealistic thing that should be changed. I have heard comments like "It's just a gold coin." lately and that reveals much about the current value of gold that does not befit illarion that is based in a medieval setting. I propose for Eliza for now to pay less for all items that can be found in illarion. Until new currencies are introduced, this is the only option I see to raise the value of gold to its proper place.
P.S. Copper, Silver etc. etc. I hope are to be implemented soon!

well if there is much gold around a single piece of gold is not worth very much. the worth of everything is set by how easy it is to get your hands on that "thing".
in the case of gold it is obviously easy: digg your shovel into the ground a few times and 'clink'.. there is your yellow nugget like friend.
in the native cultures of south and central america for example, gold was, compared to what the europeans thought of it, often not worth a damn..
and as illarion is not explicit a european, mediveal world the worth of our gold should be ok..
hope you understand me.. i have kinda like my bad english day.. to tired probally..

@Roke What would be the point of 'coated' gold coins except to diminish its value? Of course anything 'could' happen in illarion. For example, we 'could' have cars, and we 'could' have spaceships...but we don't because illarion is set in a medieval fantasy setting...I think that in this case of gold that illarion should follow what happened realistically in the Medieval Age.
But what is your reason for having illarion use gold coins that are not really gold coins but just cheap metal with a gold layer?

As Roke said gold coins could be an alloy, like the coins we have today. There are many reason why you would have a 'fake' gold coin. First, they would look better than copper coins. Second, they could be misshapen as easily. Third, in Illarion goal is rare, but iron ore isn't. A combination of iron ore and gold would be less malleable, and look better then iron coins. There are many reasons for an iron coin rather then a solid gold coin. It just makes more sense.

@Gro'bul Well, if someone gave you gold coins that were not really gold coins it would be the same as cheating you. Would you hang or kill a thief that cheated you in illarion right now? I guess that depends on your character's RP background. For example, my character Elaralith certainly wouldn't kill anyone for cheating/stealing from her...
Actually, there is nothing saying how big illarion's gold coins are. Perhpas they are only as big as an American dime.
But, reguardless, eventually we will have more coin types and so it won't matter. And no, we're not going to change Eliza's paying prices just to reflect how much a gold coin shoudl be worth.
That will happen *after* the new coins come to fruition

It is from this topic:Serpardum wrote:Of course. Most likely (though not positive) when silver and copper are implemented then current gold will be worth new silver. What will happen when we go to implement this, far in the future as of now, we would shut down the server and everyone's silver ingots/gold coins would be swapped for the appropriate currancy.Aragon wrote:
Are there also thoughts about the exchange of the money, kept and collected by players and guilds for making buildings in the future?
Cause in the moment 250 goildcoins = 1 silver ingot.
I think, there has to be a fair exchange system to the new moneysystem.
