Hostile weather

Post by Olive »

as evidenced by the great fun the majority of us who were online had withthe hurricane that passed over gobiath, i would like to opropose semi regular hostile weather events.

what abouta dry spell, followed by a feirce electrical storm that sparks wildfires that the players then have to hurry and deal with to protect property.

a fierce blizzard that requires people to literally dig thru witha shovel to move around for a few days.

maybe even a tornado rips thru a town, causing soem serious damage to help the player forget about themselves and give them a focal point to work together to repair the damage.

and so forth

You know what happens if you let the server do wildfires, all igobiath would burn down in a matter of minutes, wildfires sparked by gms might be fun, but as sometimes even normal fires brun down a whole village because noone is there I think that might be quiete a bad idea.

Hmm that would mean new graphics and honestly I doubt that anyone would have fun doing so, I wouldn't want extra work with illa, as it sometimes allready is a hassle to find someone to rp with and than you even want to spend more time walking, people complain about the slow speed allready, this would complettly throw people off.

Well thi aswell would needed to be under gm controll and as nothing is saved unless you make an update the server will just pretty much repair the damage itself.

Without wanting to step on your foot, but this proposal looks like a 5 minutes idea, without much thinking or without any idea of the source/technical issues, Gm controlled events might sound fun, but as soon as something gets regular its nothing special anymore.
Just imagen that our chars would constantly rebuild their towns because once a wildfire destroyed everything than some flood killed all animals, than a tornado ruptures the town walls and monster pour in, there would be no time to do some normal rp anymore.

well the idea is that it would all be gm controlled. not random server happenings

for instance

lets use goldburg for my example since durignthe hurricane me and yori and chester were inside

now..
lets say lightnign starts a wildfire there, we;d have to rush out and try to putthe fire out, maybe gettign a small warnign that somethgin was burnign.. a column lf smoke in the air etc..

so the GM knows peopel are tehre to react, and the players actualy nee dto work togetehr instead of the 'oh let somebody else handle it' attitude i see WAY to much in bane..

olive trie dto cut olivers head off witha sword she grabebd from altrix, and two peopel walked right by as if nothgin was going on.. which seriously dissappointed me

i was just giving a few ideas that coudl be fleshed out over a few days worth of discussion and then working in to happen once or twice a year.

or even every other year for really bad storms or weather.

If people can't be bothered to rp, it's no use trying to force them to by destroying things. That's just gonna piss off the people running the town.

If you want it Gm controlled it is a QUEST.

So send a PM to a GM with a quest idea and don't post it here.

i dont see it as a quest but an event. and i see that as two different things

a qquest has a end goal

and event can end in many ways.

and if i knew who the quest people were then i would, but from what i have been told.. and i quote.. "i'm not german so my ideas wont matter much'

so i'd rather talk pubically and get inputs

Quests aren't always linear. In Esty's quests you obviously work to a specific outcome but on the way you can do whatever you like.

In this case, the quest end will be "putting out all the fires and letting the town survive the storm" or whatever.

And look at how many of those quests on the online list are English and how many are German.

Eh?
I'm not going across the road, I'm walking across the road.

It's the same in the end: a nice thing which happens IG.
So send a PM with your ideas a GM, but not just something like "Want big storm, which destroys town!" A bit more wouldn't be bad..
