Also, I'm not excited about the fact that a character may become a slave to the role/status/occupation that his/her title denotes.
Someone might start out as a squire, but someday he may become a famous knight. Then one day his lord becomes corrupt and he may decide to desert and become a mercenary or theif. Then he may repent his ways and become a priest or temple servant.
One doesn't exactly forsee the entire course of their character's life and interaction and tell himself that "I won't put something in my title field then."
And how is it that one should be forced to declare whatever role/status/occupation whenever he wants to properly give his name to someone? Are characters now supposed to be downright blunt and never deceptive? Or are we to remember an array of numbers for people who have a roleplay reason to keep their role/status/occupation undeclared when they give their name?
I think it would be much better if there was some way to toggle your title on/off, or seperate name and title introduction functions, if players cannot edit their own title field.

I have doubts about the usefulness of the entire title- box concept. Titles can be handled much better in a role play fashion. As Dyluck pointed out, a characters title can change with time. and with the current situation this would mean to have the staff change the title and re- introduce to everyone with the new title. A player should be able to remember this little information of the title his counterpart has.
There is no need why I should put "Knight of the Grey Rose" into my title field now. Somebody who never heard my name before shouldn't know the title just from telling my name. And people who heard about it before know of title even without it flasching on the screen with every word I say.

I like the idea of the title being seen with the name after a person introduces. Remember it is a introduction...one usually gives ones affiliations etc. with one's name. They all did so in the medieval ages. A man called 'John' would nto simply introduce himself as 'John" he would say 'John the miller' or something along those lines. What I do think should be possible is the easy editing of a character's title by a player because as so many have mentioned a character's title will change with time.

My char has basically two titles. Knight of the Grey Rose and Apprentice of the Great Temple. I needed to put both into my title field (or have the GMs do it). Imagine what my spoken sentences would look like then...
Also I don't introduce myself with full titles every time, simply because my char believes that titles are unimportant. the only thing important is the person behind this title. Funny if everybody knew my titles although I never told them.
Also titles are not like names, they aren't yours from your birth on and will always stay the same. Titles can change and in my eyes it's better to spread word about this change ingame that put it into a title field. You know the new title because someone told you or or you read it, not because some little text on the screen changed.
A title field is as important for me as a box which tells me where and when I last met someone. It doesn't hurt if he have to use our memories sometimes.

All? That's just simply not true, especially not at all times. There are simply too many situations and reasons to not announce your status/occupation/title to some people, especially when it's a fantasy scenario, unless you plan to live a boring pointless life.Elaralith wrote:They all did so in the medieval ages.
Honesty and bluntness isn't a default virtue of all characters in all situations either.
Also think of how it looks during conversations.
Do you really want to have conversations with loved ones, friends, and people that go like this?
Anne the elven archer says:
Peter the farmer says:
Alan the mage says:

Justin the carpenter says:
Anne the elven archer says:
Justin the carpenter says:
Alan the mage says:
It's no longer your beloved Anne talking to you, but instead its always Anne the elven archer talking to you. Your best friend Jusitn is always Justin the carpenter talking to you.
Doesn't feel very personal does it?
I don't need to be constantly reminded that my Anne is an elven archer while I'm kissing her, or that my best friend Justin is a carpenter when we talk about old times.
Easy editing of your own title field will obviously cater to everyone's own preference to what and whether they want a title shown, but obviously it isn't possible at this time either.
Well, that's not possible right now sense the name of someone is only stored once for the client.
Personally, for my characters I did not enter a title when I created them, mostly for the reasons given. I actually had to go and put a title in for serpardum to test it.
I'm thinking of making it possible for people to change their titles willy nilly, but the problem I see with that is people doing totally idiotic things with the titles.
Anohter thought is perhaps allowing poeple to change their title every so often, say once a month or something.
Or (your choice here).
If you want the way titles are shown/changed/etc.. this shoudl be in proposals, not general.
