Magic Resistance from Monster Spells

Post by Nalzaxx »

The title is fairly self explanatory on this front but I'd like to elaborate a little.

The fact that current, you receive absolutely NO experience from being hit by monster spells is, frankly, rediculous. Monster spells are probably the number 1 reason for fighter deaths these days and we have absolutely NO defence against them.

Warriors become stronger and stronger and still take exactly the same amount of damage from these spells. I want to propose that monster spells start giving experience in magic resistance.

Currently the only way to develop magic resistance is but powergaming it with a player mage. Obviously this is an undesirable method to develop resistance so I'd like to see the opportunity for a more natural development of the skill. Monster spells are a terrible way to powergame magic resistance and the reasoning that originally saw the exp from these spells removed is frankly flawed and false.

Magic resistance is also based on the Willpower attribute and so any fears of uber-resistant warriors that can't be killed is also unfounded.

For your consideration.

Nitram told me that magic resistance right now is completely broken.
How it works currently is;

SPELL(LEVEL) <-VS-> MAGIC RESISTANCE(LEVEL)

Scenario 1: SPELL(50) <-VS-> MAGIC RESISTANCE (40) = No magic resistance, 100% spell effect on you

Scenario 2: SPELL(50) <-VS-> MAGIC RESISTANCE (60) = Full magic resistance, 0% spell effect on you

Basically, either you deflect the spell, either you don't.. you can't just.. soften it or reduce its damage..
At least I think.

P.S.: I [s]might be[/s] probably am completely wrong. If so, sorry.

I agree wit Nalzaxx in this point = A fighter has no chance against mage NPC's, all other NPC's you have a chance to resist

sure .. I forgot to log out at the first time, had simple safed Aly's ass I think, but the second time she get clouded during big lags and from a Oger Mage. If the lags happened against *normal* NPC Monsters ( let say Gnolls ) it had not the consequence of clouding and losing some stuff.

But Magic Resistance for a *normal* Char ?? *shrugs* rather not.

Would be nice to have anything for defence. IMO a special weapon, potion or armor would be the easiest way to solve the problem. Gives crafters new work and the fighters a chance to stay alive.

Nothing for or against magic will be developed until we have a proper magic system.

Putting afford into that crap that will be removed sooner or later anyway is a major waste of time.

Proposal rejected.
