Bottles

Post by Hermie »

My proposal is that bottles should not just dissapear after you drink from them, they arent made of sugar!
But not all bottles should be kept after use otherwise the bottle industry would die, I say that 1/2 or 1/3 times you use a potion the bottle would slip out of your hand and break on the floor, as the majority of the time you are useing a potion is either when you have no mana from casting or when you are fighting and quickly using potions.
There could be different messages in the text bar to show this:

Mana : ***** concentrates too much on magic and drops the bottle.
Healing potions : ***** drops the bottle in the heat of the moment.

Or there just wouldnt be a message, thus stopping spamming or we would start getting people making another town law: 'no drinking potions in town' :D Also this way druids dont have to worry too much about keeping up supplies of bottles as mages and warriors etc could trade the bottles back.
It would also add an element of realism.

Any criticism (not flaming or insults etc), or further suggestions would be appreciated.

It wouldnt kill the bottle making industry .. it would be more helpful for druids (who are usually the bottle makers) and it wouldnt require a bottle dropping skill, it is something that happens, like when you trip over walking down the road.

I think we already have enough things breaking on us. The shovels, hammers, axes, saws, etc. I wouldn't really like to see "____ trips on a stone and breaks X potion bottles." Then our gold coins will start to break when we handle them...

Think of it this way: After a bottle holds powerful magic like a mana potion, it cannot contain more magic and is therefore useless.

Hermie, at this stage of Illarion's development this would kill the already fragile bottle-making industry. Glassblowers would be obsolete because of this. Until the future when more items are made available for glassblowers this would be a crushing blow for that industry. You could think of it like this: the bottle that has been used to contain the potent potion mix is now useless because it is too weakened by the magic of the potion to be used to hold another potion mix.

I have to agree that this is not a good idea for the game yet. It would drive potion prices down which are already hard to sell. It would put all exclusive bottle makers out of business. It would only benefit those who are buying the potions and could spend less on potions. It would hurt all others.

I tend to agree.

Yes, it would be more realistic to have an empty bottle after you drink a potion. And it wouldn't be that difficult to implement.

But, it would kill the bottle making industry.

As such time as we have other glass products that the current bottle makers could make and sell we'll leave it as it is.

I'm sure eventually there will be more glass items, but I"m not sure what they will be.

Idea not good, do not consider about implementing it.
Only good for lazy bottle makers :) .
Bottle industry is barely alive, I can barely find anyone who sells any.

Actually this idea would be very bad for bottle makers, Kringin. Even the lazy ones. It would only benefit the tight fisted warriors or mages who would not want to pay the current prices for potions from druids by taking the price of bottles out of the total price of potions.

I just thought it would add a small element of realism.

One thing I have noticed: Bottles are sold for as little as 1g each which I think is pretty much nothing since it therefore makes pot ash and sand worthless too. The thing is about pot ash is that it sells for 1g or less which is pointless then the bottlemakers would get no prophit (selling at 1g each), and why would you sell 3 pot ash for 3g when you could sell the 1 log the ash came from for 4g on its own? At the moment the bottle industry is all upside down and could do with a bit of a re-arranging.
