Memories...So many memories...

Post by Dannii »

Aowyn lies wearily on the wet grass near the river, her eyes half-closed. She sighs, her breath misting in the cool air. A cold breeze passes over her skin, calming her, reassuring her. But still she is restless. As she turns, looking at the stars, an image of her dead father flashes through her mind. "There is no hope...The power of my family has failed...Will I fail too? Will I be killed by one closest to me, like my father? Or will I be the one to kill my closest friend? Perhaps I will end up like my poor brother, driven mad by grief and despair...No, there is no hope for me now..." Aowyn sighs again, closing her eyes and slipping into her dreams of childhood...
A small Elven girl runs through the tall grass, laughing and giggling as her older brother runs after her, grinning. He picks her up and whirls her around, making her squeal in delight. The girl's father and mother walk peacefully behind them, smiling, hand-in-hand. The tall, blonde-haired mother has a beautiful smile as she looks at her beloved husband. The father smiles at her, his amber eyes twinkling. The two kiss. The children turn around, laughing, and grin at their parents as they break apart. The girl giggles and runs from her father, who laughs and catches her easily. He hugs her warmly then sets her down. Aowyn, Amear, Androlina, and Janoka...The perfect family.

But in truth...

A small Elven girl sits outside on a rock, watching the river run by. The atmosphere is peaceful, everything seeming the way it should be. Tears run down the girl's face, dropping onto her dark green dress. Suddenly a voice cries out, there is a sound of smashing, and a male elf, slightly older than the young girl, opens the door of the small house behind them, and runs out, slamming it behind him. The miserable girl turns her head to look at him, and he gives her a mournful look in return. The boy sits down on the wet grass beside his sister and watches the river rush past also. Muffled shouts are heard, and more banging and smashing sounds out into the quiet village. A tall female elf with long blonde curls and cruel grey eyes runs out of the house and grabs the small girl by the arm. The girl's brother stands up and begs the mother to let his sister go. The mother ignores him and yells at the girl, telling her it's her fault that everything is going wrong. The girl cries and apologises over and over, sobbing. A tall, handsome elf runs out of the house and grabs the blonde, pulling her away from the child. He tells her to stop taking it out on her, and to go back inside and calm down. The mother glares at him but goes inside quietly. The father cuddles his daughter and son, tears streaming down his face. He tells them it will all get better soon, but they must stop making Mother angry. The three start to walk, taking one last glimpse of the beautiful sunlight before stepping inside the house.
Aowyn's eyes open and tears stream down her face. The moonlight illuminates the river beside her, and she glimpses it before slipping back into darkness.

Aowyn now sits by the well, gazing into fire that glows and dances in her eyes. A spark shoots out of it, burning her hand. Aowyn takes no notice of the quick stab of pain that slowly fades as the cool night's air caresses the burn. Sighing, Aowyn's mind fades into her dreams...

A flash of lightning illuminates the face of a young elfess - the young Aowyn. Amear, her brother, crouches next to her, his face pale and eyes wide. Both are crouched under a dining table, staring onto the scene before them. Androlina and Janoka argue, but though Androlina is wild, her blonde curls whirling around her, Janoka remains calm, his face expressionless. Aowyn begins to cry, and Amear tries to silence her.

A flash, and the dream changes.

Aowyn stands by a bed in the Hospital. A man lies in the bed, shaking and mumbling something about pirates. Aowyn's eyes flash angrily, and she says something about his friends, and cowardice. The man replies, again speaking about pirates. Aowyn sighs and shakes her head exasperatedly.

A flash, and the dream changes yet again.

An elfess with shoulder-length dark red hair and hazel eyes speaks mournfully to Aowyn, while Liam stands behind her, shocked. Aowyn falls to her knees, sobbing, then eventually stands up, says something, then storms away. Leanne and Liam are left staring after her.

Another flash, and the dream changes.

Aowyn walks towards her mother, a dangerous glint in her eyes. Androlina's appearance has not changed, but her hair is dull and her eyes have lost all the light in them. A wicked smile appears on Androlina's face and she lunges towards Aowyn, who dodges her attack and rams a poisoned dagger into her mother's stomach. Androlina's eyes widen and blood spurts out of her mouth, and she collapses to the floor. Aowyn wails and drops the dagger, running from the house.

An image of Janoka flashes through Aowyn's mind and she sits bolt upright, breathing heavily.

"...Is my father watching me right now? Is he mad at me after what I have done?" Aowyn wonders silently. "Am I being punished? Is this who I am now, is this who I've become? Am I a murderer? I didn't mean to kill her....No...I didn't want to...." Aowyn's blue eyes fill with tears and she covers herself with a deep blue cloak as it starts to rain heavily.
