dyes/herblore

Post by ThisGuy »

To make yellow dye the wiki says I need rotten tree bark, how do I get it? Not too nooby with the answer I have a sickle and I've been walking around trying to gather bark from every fallen tree/log I can find.

Also, with herblore I used to be able to try to harvest anything, and if it was something good I just failed alot. Now I get a message saying my skill isn't high enough to even try most places. Besides rechecking each place herbs can be gathered each time my skill increases, is there another way to know where I can gather, and whats still too complex?

thanks :)

There are other trees than just cherry/apple or those who can be cutted down.

No, there is no other way than to check, best is to stick to one and jsut gain skillpoints and come back to the hard ones later.

I figured that much;

I walked out of Trollsbane to the log south of the town that is always there(next to an eldan oak I believe), I try to use my sickle nothing happens

the tree inside trollsbane that looks chopped down(near the south gate) and when you try to use an axe to gather wood it tells you the log is too old, I tried using my sickle there and nothing happens

in the forest to the west of Grey Castle(atleast I think thats the name) there are lots of fallen trees/logs I try to use my sickle and nothing happens...

It sounds like you have the right idea, but that your herblore skill isn't high enough. It's not a sexy or exciting skill to have, so many players don't bother with it. Keep trying on the easy patches and you will get it eventually.

Or send a dove to Fianna or look for her in game. She has more yellow bark than she knows what to do with.

With regards to herblore:

If you get the automatic message, it means you're gaining skill in it; if you don't (you have to shift click again to start looking) it means you're not.

Best thing to do is keep a textfile next to you; remember there are a number of tiles (Grass,Rock,Farmland....) and a few items dotted around (plants, bushes) so you could look under those.

Best way to get the skill up IMHO is to find out where strawberries are, and harvest a lot, you MIGHT be able to sell them.

thanks, my skill is ok I'm actually able to harvest bark...probably just barely

its just that most of the trees and logs on the ground won't let me even try to harvest(no messages, nothing happens) but I did find 1 near the prison that works

well allright let me tell you, the bark you need for dye is NOT found on fallen trees, but on trees that do not grow near trollsbane, you need other climatic circumstances.

Wrong.
Fallen trees work also...
