Target Practice

Post by Chryton »

I was wondering if it would be possible to make targets and/or training dummies a possible craft requiring high-end parts from woodworking and tailoring (and possibly smithing) to create. The idea I have is that a crafter of one of the above types would assemble pre-made pieces (i.e. a metal "skeleton", wooden blocks, and wool padding) to create an item; and that consumable item could be used to create a non-moving, non-blocking, non-evading NPC on a tile. Attacking it would give a small amount of experience in the used weapon, and after a certain amount of damage it would "die" (possibly having a chance of dropping some of the parts used to make the item that created it).
I see it as another chance to get experienced craftsmen to come together to create something, and a way for some characters to train to defend themselves without needing to hurt other people or kill animals.
My understanding of how skills increase is a bit limited, but the general idea I wanted was that using the dummies doesn't give "decent" gains once a certain amount of skill is reached.

I had suggested this ages ago. It was shot down...

Apparently only NPCs can be attacked, and they can't really be controlled...

Thanks, I searched for a list of posts where the word "Target" was used but only read through a doze or so out of alot more. I guess a question I have now, just from what I've seen in context menus, is what exactly the yellow cross of Cherga is then. Also, I know it would take forever for me to sort through, but is the scripting written in the C/C++ family? Any chance I could get a peek at it to understand it a bit better?
There are other questions I have, but I'd rather just figure out the answers myself than annoy the devs with way too many questions.

As far as I know, the server is in C++ (Not sure about this)
The client is in java
But the game scripts are in Lua

Hope that helps a bit.
