Harvesting

Is there a place where produce may be freely harvested? Anything I try to use gives: Mai Epple Briteday: You'd better watch the place where you want to harvest.

Where MAY I harvest? I've tried in the woods, by Greenbriar, by Trollsbane, by the harbour. Not sure if it just isn't allowed or if I just don't know how.

Do I need a tool for picking flowers or cherries? I understand it is winter, but I didn't get an error saying the produce isn't available, only that I need to watch the place.

There are apple trees, cherry trees, grapes bushes and others all over the map.

Your character must be facing the tree/bush to gather fruit. And that is done by Shift+clicking the tree/bush.

You have to turn your character to the place you are clicking. So the character is looking at that position.
