Just some thoughts/ideas
Hmmm...mages do magic, you are saying they shouldn't? In that case, fighters should not duel, nor crafters craft in town. I see tons of crafters walk right past without even a greeting and go to their table, rarely do I see fighters duel without some RP (at least not any except noobies), I have seen some mages.......and have been guilty myself using some of the skills without RP... partiularly the food one or some used frequently.. ((prefers not to bore everyone with the same RP))
Back on the subject... was the post to question using this RP.. the con on new players, a complaint about the mage system, or a mixture of both as it appears?

If a teleporter were to be available to the lighthouse, this would be beneficial to mages and non-mages allowing "practice" on the field of the academy to those that would like to. It would also help those at Nordmark. As far as what people RP their mages as, I would think that is up to the PO ultimately. Each I am sure has their own idea for their char. What happened to the life long learners, not the hours a day powergamers

As long as your char isn't some crazed maniac, feel free to apply. And you have to swear not to confuse me!maryday wrote:AlexRose wrote:. . .William has 3 free places but noone bothers. . .

Wow! All this happened whilst I was asleep ?
Well. I've read everything and must say I am shocked, amused, anoyed and confused.
To those complaining yet again how IMPOSSIBLE it is trying to find a teacher I can only say, you are absolutely worng. Difficult yes, impossible no. I understand of course that some only have a few hours a week to play (work, school or kids) but it will work so keep trying.
To those complaining about how unfair some of the older "Top Dogs" have been toward the new Idio... Illa players
I must agree to some rate. The wellcome has receded to some degree since I started here about *Headscratch* 7 years ago. ALTHOUGH!!!!! There are some older players that are more than willing to try.
--all look at the grumpy dwarf--
But not I alone am friendly, *cough* patient *cough, choke* and helpful *vomit*
I have a few chars next to my main Dwarf. Some good, some bad and one that does not even understand the common language. And just there, some one took the time for few hours today to try and find out what the char wanted. And believe it or not. The friendly "older" player was a MAGICIAN !!!!
So to those waiting (like myself) keep waiting.
To those complaining about fairness, stop whining and do it yourself.
To the others who do not know what they are comlpaining about or just want to say theyr bit.
You either are too new and have no idea what your on about or your'e an old frustrated underpayed Mage.

I think a lot of people miss understood my words. Did I ever say that mages shouldn't cast magic. No. I said spam and I said powergame. Of course people will use the food spell without rp sometimes. But it is more the abuse of the system that I am talking about over a little food spell. The idea is that you expect mages to be responsible about where they cast and how they act, but many of them aren't.
Look, call it what ever you want. Bad rp or 'I'ma gonna do what I want.' I still think there are too many mages running around because we gave the wrong people teaching runes and have in turn given the wrong people runes in general. I'm not going to point fingers at anyone, know that. But there are definately people who probably shouldn't have gotten runes in the first place. But so is expected when you make a person a teacher just because they can speak English.

Faladron, do you just RANDOMLY talk to strangers without a cause? Unless your trying to teach a newb to play, and most newbs learn mainly on their own with only a few questions, there really is no need to talk to them, until they engage you in conversation. I mean, if your a crafter you are normally gathering materials, selling, and then going to be with your friends. And thus you have a select group form. That group will accept people, but the newb has to want to join first, and must actually TRY to join instead of expecting some one to run up and immediatly talk to them without saying a word. And then there are some of those who DO randomly talk to people, and end up scaring them away, by making them think they are insane.
Basically...if you are a newb the stack is against you. You will need to get into some roleplay, by making yourself seem...needed to be communicated to. And then if you can, you will be set, but I do not think any one player or player group is the blame for making newbs leave. My first day a golem was rampaging town and I was the only one online. I nearly quit because of it, because at that point I did not know how to rp with anyone, OR know what I could do. Do not point the finger at anyone Faladron for making people leave. It is not like some one stands around saying the game is horrible, or there to welcome the newbs. Most people do help the newbs, but some people don't want to inturrupt their rping for a newb. I mean if your a guard, and there is a guy trying to attack you, and a newb runs up and asks you for help, would instantly let the guy go, or would you continue the rp?
The players do try to help, but the newbs have to be able to wait as well. And I think Elsi is doing a great job at her roleplay.

So that means:Vern Kron wrote:Faladron, do you just RANDOMLY talk to strangers without a cause? Unless your trying to teach a newb to play, and most newbs learn mainly on their own with only a few questions, there really is no need to talk to them, until they engage you in conversation.
Unless someone talks to me first I don't bother talking (or playing) with characters around. Great concept right there, I always thought Illarion is a Multiplayer Game but it's rather a "Let other people come to me and entertain me" Single Player Game with more users it seems... you clearly missed what this game is about then, I recall it's more about ones ACtions rather than the REactions ...

I'd like to toss in the fact that sometimes it depends on how a character is played. Some are more likely to come running up to someone where as others will sit in a corner bruding or even are rather shy. Yes, there are people who won't role play with anyone unless they are approached and I am sure there are players that refuse to play (to a certian extent) with players they don't know. Though do think over how often you as a person talk to strangers each day if you don't have to. If it is part of a job or inorder to obtain something, don't you usually stick to people you know? Sometimes you have to interact with people you don't know, but some characters, like people, choose to avoid it.
Such as the likes of a certain Dwarf that goes to chars with a cold who are standing leaned up against a wall for more that 5 min. And roleplay that he offers them a warm meal and a fire to cure?Yes, there are people who won't role play with anyone unless they are approached and I am sure there are players that refuse to play (to a certian extent) with players they don't know.
Or like a young Elfess that is currently running around Bane, RP sneaking up on people and saying "boo" to them? (BTW, none of those frightned have ever NOT returned the RP)
Or a theif (very hard to RP) who actualy manages to get chased around Bane, sometimes cought and talks (charisma needed here) his way out of it and even manages to steal 5 or 6 copper/day.
Even the NPC's RP.... I was bored so I rp'd a dicussion with Sam. I was just about to leave when I casually asked him if he was in for a game of cards. I nearly died of stroke when he replied "why not" (I lost 3 Siver that day, positive he cheeted)
The best thing would be if YOU just DO it and lead the way.
You may be suprised to see how many are actually RPing.
