AFK policy?

Post by Konrad Knox »

Is it okay in Illarion to go AFK or is it required to logout?

I went for dinner leaving my character standing behind Seahorse Inn building to prevent him from being PKed like new players been randomly doing lately.

A GM notified me that it is considered powergaming and PKed the character. Is it powergaming even when you're just standing still, not exercising any skill? Or is the fact itself that I was behind a building that makes it an offense? I didn't engage anyone in combat and wasn't running from anyone, just picked a safe place for the character to hide while I am not playing the game.

I was unable to find confirmation of the words on the webpage.
Here is what the website says:

10. Powergaming
Carrying out an action that does not fit your character's role repeatedly and for an extended time just to raise skills is called Powergaming, and is forbidden. Examples are to train with other characters without a roleplaying background or always hanging around spawn points. A worse case is when the player is away from his computer ("away from keyboard", AFK), raising his skills while doing something else like doing the laundry.

Here is what the GM said:

Someone (1489326284): hey dude
w:Someone (1489326284): (( Afking in a wall shadow.. ))
w:Someone (1489326284): (( .. is considered Powergaming and against server rules ))
w:Someone (1489326284): (( see ya later - Noradur ))
Konrad Knox: You are hit by a heavy blow upon your hands.
Konrad Knox: Walk to the YELLOW CROSS to get resurrected !

Please clarify someone, I don't want to make another mistake like this one. Is AFK not allowed? Do I have to leave the character in a clear sight visible place if I do go AFK? Or do I have to consider the character asleep, hence valid target for attack?

Thank you.

The Problem is, that I saw you with Taeryon and talked to you. Then I waited a bit. I thought maybe you're in the forums or something and shot a fireball onto myself so that you hear that something is happening ig and you didn't react. After an other five minutes, I threw you to a visible place with JUS QWAN and got Noradur. There are many people that pg until they reach the skillcap and then go away to where no one is normally around and go sleeping or something, because the skillcap reduces much faster when you're logged in. We thought that you are one of those.

Oh... oops. Sorry I did not know that it goes away faster when you stay in.
I didn't logout because I don't like to always sign back in.

I was in the kitchen having dinner, and ran back in when I heard the weapon sounds, they are loud and sharp. I thought some noob is trying to kill me again and got devious enough to walk behind a building to reach me, and found myself to an unpleasant surprise.

Reason I hid was because lately I see a lot of new players randomly approaching people and attacking them at depots, shops, etc. As if it was a pvp game or something.

How come standing behind walls is illegal? It's impossible to attack or something? I thought when you go behind a wall, it goes transparent and you can still normally fight? Why is it an offense? It's not like the character was indestructible or anything.

Well.. Hitting the ESC Button is not a big deal. Logging in when able to play, neither.

If you go AFK of course it always depends, how logn you do. A player notified me that he found you afking. He greeted you and got no reaction of ou, then waited, and waited and then i showed up and wrote the text you jsut saw, and before i even PK'ed you, you logged out, cause all of a sudden you were back behind your keyboard & found your escape button.

If we find anyone afking, we only see: "Hey his skillcap gauge decreases, while he is not even playing the game activly?! Why should his skillcap lower faster than those who play the game activly. He should log out!"

Dont start a discussion about it, just log out and dont afk, when there is nobody waiting to rp with you anyway.
