Lack of Gnome's

Post by Daerbert Hoggle »

Hello all,

I am wodering if people would like to post there ideas on why there are not many Gnome characters IG. I am hoping to start a sort of Gnomish community/council and I am wondering how to entice people to play a Gnome character.

All I can think of is that there are just not enough Gnome's IG to socialise with so you are kind of on your own. For example, I have used the Gnomish language only once all the time I have been playing.

All your thoughts on how we could get more Gnome's IG would be greatly appreciated.

Its destiny...

Some races never get much of a look in, lizards, orcs... the ones which need a Rp exam to join get even less.

The best way to get more people is to actually show people how good gnomes get it, giving them free stuff for example :P

Count me in. Ninder is my main character, so if I play, I choose him. Unfortunately I have not that much time currently and there is nothing really pulling me IG... perhaps such a Gnomish society could work wonders.

/something good about Gnomes: the max dexterity value is 24, so they can advance quite easily in every craft. Go for Gnomes!

Just my opinion,

It is my felicitous faith in an undignified theory which promptly states "Gnomes have no place in Gobaith". The description of the Gnomish race is one of mechanical, complex contraptions, inventions and other 'industrial' age bric-a-brac.

Since Gobaith is 'medieval'/magical setting, there isn't mush opportunity for Gnome to meddle in 'mechanical' contraptions, machines, or even levers and pulleys! A Gnome therefore simply becomes a nimble Goblin or Dwarf. Just 'another one of those races' which have no home or bearing upon the major races. They are treated as an 'oddity', but not enough to be worth playing long-term.

I have tried to use my character "Perrilynn Appalachia Primrose Asmurf" in a verbose liguistic fashion, as I have heretofore done, to illustrate the complex nature of Gnomish intelligence and thinking processes.

Unfortuantely, either the language is too complex for the average player, or the average player isn't that 'average' (hehe). As a consequence, his efforts are merly laughed at, and almost meaningless.

It's difficult to define Gnomes when there aren't any around, no 'mechanical' contraptions for them to work on, or any desire to see these things in the future.

In my opinion, Gnomes are 'redundant' compared to the main 5 races. They are not 'distinguished' enough as a race to really be different. For Gnomes to be popular, they have to have a city of their own, skills of their own, or some other 'special' aspect which makes them worth playing. Right now, the high Dexterity isn't enough to make a great craftsman....sure, it helps, but it takes much more to be a great craftsman than a high dex. (That just helps you when 'making' things)

I would love to see Gnomes become more common, but honestly, as short as we are on players, we should concentrate on the prime 5 races and bolster them first before we concentrate on the special races.

Thankyou for your input people. Just want to say my idea is for a small community of Gnome's perhaps even just three or four to begin with. I have some plans for a Gnomish council for purely rp purposes and a place to live and work. I hope this will bring a few more Gnome's IG...I like the idea of someone walking into a room with say 6 Gnome's standing around talking, now that would be a turn up for the books. Although I think Tuatha may be right about the mechanical side of things and that is why I try to play a philosophical gnome rather than an engineer kind which seems to work but lets face it...I need a contraption to meddle with :) maybe one day!

If anyone likes the idea of playing a Gnome within a small community send me a dove or post here and we can put some ideas together. Or if you are unsure on how to start a Gnome character and what proffession to follow etc I will help out anyone who asks.

I thought of a gnome char sometime back, though my first application was turned down and I didn't really bother a new one yet.
Perhaps I'll join in the gnomey club another time.
Though the whole community thing behind it, doesn't sound greatly like my gnome idea. We'll see.

My gnome is still active. If you have an idea on how to make Gnome's work, I'd love to hear it, but so far I haven't heard any specifics yet.

Please expound.
