Meaning of attributes
Alright, I have some problems with some of the attributes and I am a bit confused.
The two most confusing ones are Willpower an essence. If I read their description, Willpower is your charisma and Essence is your willpower???? lol
Essence should be charisma since there are no other stat for this and charisma has nothing to do with willpower. So essence in this way would affect social skills and social art skills like singing, storytelling, poetry, etc.
Willpower should be... well... willpower. Resist outside influences, how headstrong your character is, and how patient your character is.
Intelligence is quite self-explaining, measures your character's reasoning, imagination, wisdom, creativity and memory. Should affect cooking, art skills, search skills, magic skills, herbalism, etc.
Strength is also self-explaining as well as constitution. Probably affects all damage being given or taken, stronger characters have bigger muscles and are more massive than others so they can take more punishment than others. While those with high constitution would be more clean cut, healthier and took longer time to get fatigued or sick. They probably do not influence any kind of skills though since stronger does not mean better at doing things.
Dexterity should be about hitting your targets better with missiles, thrown or hand to hand attacks, as well as the job of artisan (smithing, carpentry, carving, etc.).
Perception is also self explaining. It probably influences all aiming devices like crossbows and blowpipes. Also would affect searching and identification skills.
So my question is this, is willpower used as willpower or charisma? And is essence used as charisma or willpower? Is essence a factor in magic points since many games have the essence attribute and affects the amount of magic points one has.
Thank you for your help.

Not a good article, but better than nothing: http://illarion.org/community/wiki/index.php/Attributes

[ insert useless flaming here ]Different stat combinations affect certain things. Strength really does not affect the damage you do except for certain weapons. Some weapons barely even use it. As for other things they affect different stuff.[ insert more useless flaming here ]

Because what you can read in the link given in the first reply as well as on the first site is wrong then.
Essence is magic while willpower if for resisting mental domination and affects your magic resistance and courage (resist natural fear.. perhaps also magical/psychically induced).
Someone should update the fundamental things on the game in the website. It is very confusing.
Nice idea of a game though... too many power gamers/hack'n'slashers to my taste still, but close to real rpg.
Keep up the good work!

ehm...willpower defines the power of casted magic, essence defines the resistance to all non-physical actions. Never heard or read anything else.Paldomire wrote:Essence is magic while willpower if for resisting mental domination and affects your magic resistance and courage (resist natural fear.. perhaps also magical/psychically induced).

Just a proposal to use ones knowledge of stats for keeping ooc IG minimized, if both "opponents" are honest enough not to cheat.
If you feel not bothered too much by the possibility of it ruining IGatmosphere, you can use your stats to free-compete by ooc,
to prevent endless discussions or forceRP.
orc: tries to grab for the mans hands, to keep them still.
human: #w ((dex/str?)) [[he has 12/14]]
orc: #w ((16/12))
human: [[might also tell his stats here to show his point]] you get hold of the hands, but are not strong enough to keep them held.
Takes away some chances to RP it out, but might prevent hours and hours of repetative discussions [[mental stats]], or continued PK [[bodyly]].
Not everyone !GMs because of resKill.
