Java 1.5 and offline installation

Post by Leon DeGamme »

I have downloaded the offline installation for the Illarion client. I also went to the Java website and installed the newest version of Java (1.6). So now when i install the Illarion client, it tells me I dont have Java installed and prompts me to install Java 1.5. Is the offline installation not compatible with the new 1.6 version of Java? What happens if I install the Java 1.5 version over the current 1.6 version?

I run it on 1.6 fine, do you by any chance run Vista, or XP. I would also suggest making sure your firewall allows java to this site, and posting which browser you use.

This happened to me on Vista.

The offline version didn't work.
Then I used the online version and it worked.

I am on Windows XP using Microsoft Internet Explorer. my firewalls are off. To be honest, installing the game "online" works fine but I wanted to make a copy of the .exe for my laptop and thats when i noticed that the "offline" version doesnt seem to be conpatible with the new Java version 1.6.

Did you try it from the shortcut or the java console in the control panel, sometimes I have had trouble with the shortcut also.

why bother... with the offline installation anyway? i think it's not even up to date (not sure though) which.. in the end you will be doing the online installation as well.

might as well... zip the illa folder from your PC and copy it to the laptop...

what illarion folder should I zip to my PC? the actual executable files are not the ones that are in the illarion folder that gets installed to your "my documents" folder.

you can't copy a program in the java cache. That simply does not work. You have to install it on each computer seperated.

But i fear the Offline Installation is out of date anyway. So you need to download the whole client each time you want to install it.

C:\Documents and Settings\<computer user name>\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\javaws\http\Ddownload.illarion.org\

The last folder... i'm not sure, since i have 2 versions, but you should have something similar. As for the executeable... right click -> file <- and save it into your desktop.

EDIT:
woops... i guess.. cheating is not allowed... hehe :P

so the offline installation is not combatible with the new java 1.6 update? what happens if I install Java 1.5 over the 1.6 version?
