Wow, if I wasn' confused before I started reading this post, I sure am now.

Paul, Your posts seem to be the only ones I can make sense of. If I had been watching this post earlier I would have came in and defended you.

It seems like every post that Elaralith puts up turns into a flame war.
They are always too deep and complicated.

I think Illarion is the most realistic game I've ever played.

bottom line,
IT'S A GAME, LET'S JUST ENJOY IT AND HAVE FUN

rightly said Crocket.
Hypocrite: a person who puts on a false appearance of virtue or religion.
I guess your right, wrong word (although it does fit on Elaralith rather nicely :D ). I was looking for a word that meant to say something that goes against what you are doing.

This in no way could be midevil Europe, if so they would have to take out the elfs, hobbits, lizardmen, orcs, dwarves, skellitions, mummy's, demons, giant spiders, rot worms, beholders, demon skellitions, and ogres. I doubt there tring to make it like midevil europe at all.

@Elaralith
Im currently working on a Avatar for the boards, but for now, id like to have a avatar or something youll never see in the game.. a sheep that doesnt look like it came from furcadia or neopets.

Moathia, you wrote a post ,not related to the topic, saying to get rid of all posts not related to the topic. How does that work? :|

Anyway, I saw no where on the website it saying it is like medieval Europe. Someone find that on the actual website and i'll change my argument.

That includes mine, hence the all part.

Also this is medievil fantasy not medievil reallity so magic is ok. As are the races.

I think there is a lot of confusion between realism and real life. Realism doesnt mean that it is something from real life. I have said this before:

Real life is our world, our rules and so on.
Realism is an effect of making something real.

So shooting ice bolts from your hands cant be done in Real life, but an effect could make you think you were, making the ice bolts realistic. I hope this makes sence.

And would people stop posting to say things like: ' Yay Crocket. ' That post is a waste of space and should be punished

Exactly. With people like Kasume who also doesn't understand the difference, that is why this thread was started to explain to these people what is meant when we are talking about reaslim and realistic, NOT reality.

And about medieval, I'm pretty it's still based on a certain geographic location at the medieval times. I don't think there were any asians or blacks (can't think of the accurate term) in Lord of the Rings.

I do not "flame". What I do do is give people that post senseless posts a reply that clearly outlines their way of not thinking and hopefully turn them around for the better. Stupid unthought out posts really frustrate me, and I do not plan on just ignoring or letting such posts continue without a well-deserved reply.
I started this post to explain about Realism because I noticed many did not grasp the concept too well. I see it as somewhat of a success because some people have approached me, to thank me for allowing them to finally get it. There are only a small number that stubbornly refuse to understand, and these I believe are doing it because they want to argue for the sake of arguing. I have tried my best to help even those people see what Realism is all about, and my best is all I can offer.
@Kasume This is fantasy medieval RPG. The fantasy makes magic "realistic" in illarion.
@Iqloo You are a halfing in illarion. If you are working on a good halfling avatar why not just use the illarion halfling avatar for now instead of a white sheep which really tells nothing about your character? As for skeletons etc. etc. being not "realistic" in illarion read what I said to Kasume...*sighs* Do people not read? This has been addressed so many times already. The fact that magic etc. is realistic in illarion because it is of a fantasy genre...
@Crocket I feel about senseless posts just as you do. It frustrates me too, and I do wish that they were punished too. I marvel that you find my posts "too deep and complex". What is so deep and comlex about illarion being a medieval fantasy RPG and therefore having certain items from the medieval era and such things as "magic" because of its fantasy genre? Realism in illarion is defined as what applies in it as being realistic because of its relation to the medieval times and what comes of being of the fantasy genre. Nothing "deep and complex" there that I see. This isn't rocket science.
@Moathia You say there is a "flaming war". Your recent post into this thread was one of the biggest flames yet. Telling everyone to "shut up" does NOT help the situation, and it is like adding wood to an already blazing fire.

@Dyluck. Actually I wouldn't bet on that. In the book, not in Mr. Jacksons ripp-off version there is the people of Haradrim which are, In my knowledge are a certain 'arabic' or 'african' race.

@Caranthir: I haven't read the book before, but at least Africa is closer to Europe. Anyways, the point is the main setting would still be based on medieval europe. When we think about what "normal" (non-magical) things to add to the game, we'd think in terms of medieval europe. Hence there aren't samurai related armaments, "highly skilled fighting-monks" as someone suggested before, or other exclusive items from outside medieval europe, at least not in the main setting.

@Dyluck. Yes, I got your point. But as you used the LoTR as an example, I felt that I had to correct you a bit, no offense.
'Battle monks?' I wonder if you are talking about Sean? 8)

@Dyluck I agree with you concerning illarion being based in a more european medieval environment. But about "warrior-monks" such a class of people did not belong to just the asian area in the medieval ages though the asian monks are the most famous. In europe, there were also monks that were quite skilled at fighting. This was a necessity because much violence occured in this era with practically little order and law. Monasteries had many sacred usually expensive items, and because of the lawlessness of the era monks needed to know how to fight to defend the monastery and its riches from thieves and bandits.

I wonder where the setting is baised on enviroment (i know it was just made up, but where COULD illarion be if it were a actuall country/continent in our world today, baseing this OLNY on the plant life and landform.)

Im guessing around Italy, or Rome. The Palm Trees make it a hard choice.. Maby Asia! That covers a good bit of the land anyways, so its a good chance :p

The United States have all those elements, palm trees, grassy plains, beaches, mountains, forests, and deserts.

But then I guess we would be using cowboys and indians instead of knights and wizards.

:D :)

oh no, they are much longer then that. Generally 500 - 1500

c. 500 - 1000: Early middle ages (Dark ages)
c. 1000 - 1350: High Middle ages
c. 1350 - 1500: Late middle ages.

The middle age is getting down with the italien renessaince and the humanism. Therefor one speak about the beginning of modern times in history at the ending 15th century (about 1500).

The "late middle age" wasn't any more the time of armoured knights.
They live more in the high and ending early middle age (think at the crusades 1095-1291).

hmm... if we are in the 15 century... only 100 more years til there are weapons such as cannons and early forms of muskets. I think we are further back...

I would say illarion is based in the time period of around 1000 A.D. - 1500 A.D. But 15th century is a bit too close to modern times...illarion is in a bit of an earlier time I think.
@Mishrack If you view it from that perspective then nowhere on Earth would there be a suitable "place" where illarion could be based as never on Earth have there been Elves, Dwarves, etc. etc.

The renaissance started in the 1320'ies in florence, and marked theend og the middle age. Middle age actually derives the name from being between the roman age and the renaissance.

I dont think Illarion is in any of those years ... as there were no halflings, dwarves, elves, orcs or lizardmen arond in those days. It's a fantasy game and there for muskets and cannons will most likely never be invented, and the year is however long Illarion has been around for. :D
