Feedback: New old book system
Hello,
I use this thread to give feedback on the re-introduced book system.
Besides there are some errors in the books and sometimes the text is longer/wider than the book graphics, I like the system.
1. It would be nice if the most books have titles.
2. It is possible that the books are opened immediately after clicking on them in the selection menu. So, no annoying book item which appears in the ground?
3. How important is the Recherche/research skill? My character has it and is quite intelligent, but got much wrong letters ("Buchstabensalat") when reading books.
PS: To close a book, click the red "X"-seal.

1. They have titles. It's only in the menu were you don't see the titles. You can know them by either clicking the bookshelf (you get the list of books in the shelf in the proper order) or click the book after taking it out.
2. Not possible, I think. But I don't think it's really necessary.
3. There are quite a few books that need a certain level of research to read properly. If you get wrong letters, you need a higher skill.

How about books one selects from a shelf are placed in the inventory instead of on the ground? I find it rather cumbersome to use an item on the ground, in special when it is hard to see like in the library of TB. Placing them on a table, being able to give a newbie something to read, throwing books at elves with your faery,... I see many pros. Also, it might be more easy for newbies to learn from books when they can carry them around.
If you want to prevent that people take dozends of books out of the library, I can think about very simple methods to prevent that (e.g. rotsInInventory = true; or a check by an NPC or an invisble item for books in the inventory upon leaving the library through the exit.).

The way that cool and fancy looking book system works is to open the books from the ground. Everyone else is not supported at all.
From client side... i can't remember anymore why Nop wrote it like this, but there was a reason...
PM him if you want to know more.
The books HAVE to be on the ground to open them. Thats the reason why you can't move them too.
