Newbie Equipment

I recently started a new character, And it seems he cannot attack with his starting weapon (Average, Old, Short Sword) or block with his shield (Very bad, Rusty Light Metal shield). When I try to attack something using those, A red circle appers around the target (Like always) but nothing happens. I can attack using fists, So I think it's something to do with those two items.

Nope! The packages are smiled up

But i don't have a real idea what items i have to put in to make them better.

Knights starting package has apples and bread at 0% condition

and I suppose Evan refers to the unusable shortsword in paladin-package.

Therefor Nadir does not buy craftable shortswords, maybe he only buys
back the paladin ones
