Realism
Moderator: Gamemasters
To come back to the topic:
When I talk about realism in Illarion, I think about a concept of the fantasy world, that is realistic in its self. You define some things at the start, that you base the concept on, like:
1) there is a thing like magic
2) people can die
3) you can't walk through walls
To give an mathematical example:
Rules:
1) 1=1
2) 0=0
3) 1+1=0
4) 0+1=1
From this you can conclude that 1+1+1=0+1=1
This may not be realistic in the world we live, but it is realistic in itself if you accept the given rules.
We have some rules in Illarion, and everything else should be created in a way, that it doesn't contradict the rules.
The reason why I want to have realism is as follows:
If we don't have realism, then two people can't interact properly. If one thinks that magic doesn't exist, he could refuse to accept the effects of magic.
If you have the rules "there is magic", "you can die", the realism forces you to accept "you can die by magic". If we don't have realism, one person that is killed by another by magic could refuse to accept it. He could run to the cross to revive and attack the same person over and over again (because he can't get killed by magic).

@Loki I agree.Dont insult other Persons,Paul! Maybe its just you who is caught up in his onw "world".
First I believe some rules have been broken here. READ THE RULES! You know who you are...it is strictly against illarion rules to insult the person behind the screen, which some of you are doing. Stop it, before you get banned from the forums.
@Kringin *sighs* You still don't get it. Try rereading the posts, I don't want to bother explaining to you again. Note: Why is this person even allowed in illarion with his mental attitude and nonRP aspect? Take a look at what this person has said please illarion staff.
Clearly, he shows that he doesn't care about this which is RP.do you really think anyone cares about this?
As well, you speak of improper grammar. Take a look at your own posts.
The "i" should be capitalized...Am i wrong?
@Paul You are right I become another person when I play illarion, and right now that would be Elaralith. And that is what you are supposed to do for proper RP. If you don't do that, and it seems you do not even understand that way of thinking you shouldn't play illarion! What happened is, you got so caught up in Illarion, you turned into your character. At least, thats what happened to Elaralith
@Guardian Angel Thank you for saving me the time of having to say what you said! Well said.
@Adano Exactly.
@Bror Hear from one of the creators of this game all! That is what I am trying to point out by making this post in the first place to explain to all those confused people that just don't get it.

Oh my gosh! The hypocrisy. First you go on to say you should not insult the person behind the screen, and then you specifically address people on their "bad" grammar and flame them for it, and i have no clue what you are talking about, Guardian. I never said anything about people putting down my opinions. Where did this come from, and isn't that message attacking, me, the person behind the screen?

You'll never understand me and I'll never understand you because your writing is sorta abstract not completely, which sometimes confuses the reader. We know what you mean by the logic and hte concepts of character reality and reality. you are just warping it more and more everytime you speak. and lose the attitude..... I am just keeping it real
... chill.
.. you'll never understand me and I'll just ignore you from now on. deal?
..... hey Paul just let this thread rust to hell....

@Paul Noone has insulted you (person behind the screen), only you have insulted other people (behind the screen).
@Kringin What I have written is not abstract at all, but exactly to the point. If you cannot understand such words, then that is your problem.

It seems to me that you are the one that cant understand, I was insulting the thread, not you. Take it personally if you wish. And Maybe you think you get to the point, but to some others you dont, there is always the edit function. Use it, I do. Still lose the attitude, noone is yelling at you or insulting you; you just assume they are.
I finally read through not only the posts with content but all the posts and i would like to make a few points.
a)Yes, what Elaralith did say at first was confusing however, she and others did explain it properly and with excellent examples.
b)Some people don't seem to be reading or trying to comprehend the posts, make that valid posts of others. An example is Kringrin referring to reality while nearly everyone else was referring to realism. It is my oppinion that Paul and Kringrin only read posts from Elaralith so they can argue with her and they do not fully comprehend them nor are they trying to comprehend them.
c) Regarding the definition Paul found in a dictionary I would like to say a word or two regarding defintions and dictionarys. There are many different types of dictionarys, from different publisher and each definition from each dictionary tends to be worded a little different. Also, a definition of something can be based on previous experience, although it may not be in the dictionary it coud be used as a definition, I guess.
Thank you everyone, correct me if i may be wrong in some points.

I hate to admit it, but your rightRoke wrote: It is my oppinion that Paul and Kringrin only read posts from Elaralith so they can argue with her and they do not fully comprehend them nor are they trying to comprehend them.
This definition is from the official AMERICAN HERITAGE DICTIONARY. It tells no lies.Roke wrote:c) Regarding the definition Paul found in a dictionary I would like to say a word or two regarding defintions and dictionarys. I see the point you are trying to make, and it is right. The problem is, that is not how everyone else on the other posts use the word! That is the problem i see. They use me definition.
I'm a bit confused about the purpose of these posts. Are you clarifying that real-life medieval times are different than the setting of Illarion, but only slightly? Or are you starting a discussion about what is realistic in Illarion? Or is it about how much realism is to be included in Illarion? Or is this a post about something completely different? The purpose seems to have been clouded by all this argument over reality, and realism.
@Korwin I started this thread to explain about Realism in illarion, as so many people were grumbling because they did not understand. Basically, illarion is a fantasy RPG that is based in the medieval era. Because of its link to the medieval ages some things in illarion must be according to what was in the medieval times. For example, in illarion there is no such thing as "cars" because cars did not exist in the medieval ages. Because it is fantasy "magic" exists although it did not in the medieval ages. By the way, read my post that started this all again if you need to.
Hope I cleared some things up for you!

kringin, where did you get the birdie thing? i cant even concentrate on your posts because of it! i want one! anyways!
@Elaralith: Do you really talk like that in real life?
thats just plain scarry...
@Elaralith: Do you really talk like that in real life?
At least you see your mistake unlike Kringin who is bulldozing ahead with his inappropriate posts to his own doom.
Well bulldozing isn't my style Elaralith, I just speak plainly unless I use exclamation marks. Yet you still dont mention about you writing better next time with Proper examples. wel anyways to clear myself up...
That better?
Thats me.There seem to be a group of people that think realism is no good for a fantasy game like illarion.
Not really. The fun factor is intricately tied with realism in illarion.
Obviously. As it is fantasy of course there are some things like "magic" that are not "realistic", but what is really meant behind the word "realistic" in relation to illarion is "realistic" in the RP medieval fantasy style.
That better?
@Kringin No, you still do not get it. If you do not understand how realism is tied in with an RPG like illarion then maybe this game is not the game for you. Read the description of illarion again and what the illarion staff say! (Read Bror's post...) This game is medieval fantasyfor the hundreth time. And because of this certain things that were realistic during that era must occur in illarion! So that is why there are no cars in illarion for example because cars were not invented in the medieval ages! But because this is fantasy certain things like "magic" are also realistic!
*sighs* That is truly my last attempt to try to explain things to you
@Iqloo Do not post if all you are going to write is useless stuff that does not apply to the matter that is being discussed. Quite a few people are like you...its called spamming! Stop. How I speak in real life is not something I am willing to reveal to you. As well such mind sets as yours Iqloo about avatars is what is going to cause the illarion staff to take the avatar function out. The avatars are supposed to represent how your character in illarion would look like! Your avatar is not supposed to be something "cool" that you show off to everyone.
*rolls her eyes* Understand?

What the heck are you talking about? Do you even listen to anyone? or what they are trying to say? I am not talking about the reality thing I am stating my opinion.
You didnt make this forum Elara so you cant tell anyone what their avatars are supposed to be. And are there specific rules that state that? So what if they take the avatars out.... its not to great of a importance.
Enter reality.
I'm leaving, you'll never under stand ............................................

Please try and keep on topic with the original post.
And I know we don't really like doing this, but for those of you who are still having trouble grasping the concept of medieval fantasy. Read the LOTR, or other fantasy books such as Dragonlance, wheel of time, eddings' books. Those are all in the time period we are talking about, and those are prime examples of a medieval fantasy atmosphere.

@Kringin You are a dwarf in illarion, but your avatar is a silly animation of someone riding a bird. I do not tell you what your avatar should be. I am merely informing you of what the illarion staff think your avatar should be. Again, I encourage you to leave and not respond to threads if all you are going to do is post useless unhelpful posts.
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH Everyone shut up, Elaralith stop, everyone stop tryping. No stop going for the post reply button, just shut up, Paul, Elaralith and the dwarf I can't be bothered remembering the name of at 2:30 am, stop typing, this is turning into a flame war, so cut it out, Illarion needs realisim, it has realisim, so stop posting, every post rom you three since page 5 has been flaming the other, so cut it out!!! I would suggest everypost from them on this thread that does not have to do with the toipic be removed as soon as someone can.
ya know...this doesnt have to happen on Earth. It could be on planet jupitar yet in the past for all we know. OR!!! It could be a galaxy far far away........ I never really understand it though. I think when you make a game you make your world correct? Well then....does it need to be real? LOTR didn't take place in Europe or anything. Middle Earth. He made a world. Though I could be totally wrong and the game could take place smack dab in Europe. Never know!

Paul, I am not sure you even know what hypocritical is. Moathia was not being hypocritical at all, she dealt no insults. She is tired of hearing you all lunge at each other's throats with constant insults. I have to agree with her.. This thread is getting stupid and should be locked soon if this does not stop...
