Traning Attributes

Post by Faramier »

Yes I am aware that this has been talked on many a time and yes it could turn the game into runescape and everything else evil in this world but....

I am proposing a way to increase attributes through exercises, for example, if you fight alot and carry heavier things you will become stronger, if you read alot of books you will become more wise and if you meditate your esscence will become more powerful and so on.

Also, this would not be easy, just like the skill system, so it would not make it into a stat game. And depending on age, weight, height, etc you will only be able to raise your attributes to a certain level.

And to add a furthur touch of realism, if the skills are not used for a long time then they will deteriorate and they will also deteriorate if you take injuries, if you get bashed on the head hard you may forget things thus your wisdom lowers.

I believe this would add a new dimension to the game and stop topics of people moaning about the new character they created but that is too dumb to do this that or the other.

Finally, I believe that adding this will serve as valuable experience to the programmer(s) as after all this is thier project. Learning to introduce a system of training sustaining and deterioration will most probally be very helpful in a career of game programming and also be something new and something to be proud of.

While I agree with the,if you dont use your skills they deteriorate. I have to tottaly disagree with you about everything else. Any programers who have worked on this game have EXTREME bragging rights. No other game I have seen in my life ( and have played quite a few ) Has reached the QUALITY of Illarion. Sure you have pay games and such but that was done by DOZENS of people getting payed to do it. This game was made by people who love to roleplay! Not to mention the skill system they have now is unlike ANY other I have EVER seen before. Im not sure if any other game come close! So its in my oppinion that the skill system is fine AS IS. And as for the people who create new characters. Thats always new players who dont know how to play! Its because of INEXPERIENCE that they dont know how to do anything!! You dont see many older players whine when THEY start new characters! ( Ok MAYBE a few but not all of them  ) Just remember this game is being done by people who are nice enough to do it in there free time! There not getting payed! So in case i havent said it lately, Thanks Illarion staff! Thank you all for making such a fun game for us all to play with.

I think you misenterpreted, I am not suggesting there is nothing to be proud of at the moment, of course there is, just look at the game and the community it has created, I am merly suggesting that implementing an attribute system such as this would take away alot of whining about having to make a new character, would add a furthur touch of realism and, correct me if I am wrong, bring a first into the world of online gaming. I have never heard of an online game where skills deteriorate if not used.

While i kinda like the idea of skills that deterioratete over time. Im still thinking that the only reason people whine is because they dont know HOW to play this game and how the skill system works. ( and yes i have had exp with no skill and the new skill system ) Not that im saying this is there fault cause ya have to play to learn.

Hehe, i just liked the way you posted the idea. You really gave some credit due to the programmers instead of just being like most people saying "do this, it will make the game better"

But, with the idea, i have to agree with Gannon. I think the skill system is fairly unique as is, and is fine as it is as well. I do not think it should be changed.
