There is a Client Item List which is bilingual including the items' IDs and graphics. But it comprises more than 3000 items, so it would be a huuuuge effort to copy/paste these names in a list without IDs. At least I think that it is not wanted to publish all the IDs.

I don't like the idea to publish the whole item list. Since all the cool huge swords noone has currently IG would be known then.

This list in no way at all helps me. I don't play this game to learn German. I play this game to rp. If thats the case, maybe the Germans should make a requirement on the front page which says "Small amount of German is needed to play this game." Because thats what it's coming to.
It could also read: Fluent English language is required, because we are nice and do most stuff in English ig already. Seriously, I never had a problem with that. I could learn a thing or two. But when reading stuff like "Death to the Grey Rose" and cynical words like yours above, I wonder why I did have an online dictionary open since years of playing to offer a proper English language.

Seriously, again, there are not many people from both languages complaining about some sort of barrier. Many get well along with it.

And stop complaining about guilds like the Grey Rose which only takes German speaking players. Even if stuff like Kallahorn had people from Germany as members, there was never a possibility to do a pure conversation on German between the members, where there? It's just one example. If a group decides to only do German roleplay at some special occasions, which IS easier, then just let them be. There are more groups who only offer the possibility to do English conversations.

About 85% of the German speaking people here switch to English ingame once someone of the other language enters the room. The others, who don't, are probably not able to speak English. You should just accept that, because you can't probably switch to German. You even said you can't. No, wait, you said you didn't want to. It means work, I know.

Sorry for being a little upset, but I saw people complaining about some German/English list here and when it was done you just say: "It's useless. Actually I don't want to know the German words."

The German/English problem was there since this game is online. It's the internet, hello? People always found a way to get along with it. Why should there be major changes now? Just show at least some respect and improvise.

@Cecil: much better if you ignore such people... there are several here that only care about themselves... and never think much about what they said...

@Taeryon: thanks for the list :)

Because currently you go in, try to roleplay and everyone ignores you TOTALLY. Even if your character is roleplaying a heart attack in the middle of town.

Conclusion: They either aren't understanding you OR they're ignoring you so they can continue powergaming

Now if we can filter the two...

Also there is another problem. Illarion never was a game for the masses. Illarion used to be one of those games which the highlight of everything was the roleplay. You'd do most things for roleplay, look at the massivly large guild rules or town rules pages. But nowadays, we've diluted it, and people just don't want to make the effort...

Personally I wouldn't mind learning german if someone takes me under his/her wing...

Hadrian you must see our side aswell, the germans, who really try to play english or even translate large posts in the borads, are ignored, you know how much time it takes to translate something from another user, because you can't use "your own words", heck you don't want to make a mistake in a translation, which could evolve other misunterstandings.
Inside the game all I see is, that people who really try to play english switch automaticly, like cecil said, to english if an english player walks into the scene.
Try to count the english people who are willing to play in german even if its the last crap... uhm..I didn't met someone in the last 3 months or something, except you now, its always "germans learn english" never "Well I could learn german..maybe..someday" and when you then read something like "yeah the german player ignore us english players" its really boiling up inside of me..because its a fat lie or you just met the wrong people.

Well, English is the world language after all, I never wanted to deny that, but you get the same language problems when you go on holidays in a foreign country and you don't speak the language.

It's even less hard here, because the amount of 'real' unsolvable language problems is close to zero. That's why I can't understand all the complaining really.

Language barrier is a global 'problem' (it's not only present in Illarion...) but it is certainly nothing WE will change here by complaining about it.

edit: Unless we all switch to Esperanto, of course ...

If someone would be kind enough to link me to a good "Learning german" site, or wants to give me lessons, please pm me. I want to learn german. (If anyone wants maltese lessons to trade.... )

As cecil said, you can get more done learning english, then learning german, although it has to be admitted that german is becoming very important in europe due to industrilisation.

Before you log in, click on options and turn off back ground music. Voila! Your problem is solved.
I tried, it doesn't work..

Are you sure you're playing illarion?

Maybe you left another program (wmp?some flash applet running/winamp?) which DOES have music running...

Otherwise post this strange complaint in the techinical board...

Look, we're 101% sure there isn't background music...

I closed all my programs especially to make sure the music is from the game.. It is.. Because when I remove focus from it (Alt+tab to another application), the music stops playing. When I bring focus back to Illarion, it starts playing again.. the music isn't all that bad... (To whoever composed it) but it gets annoying and repetitive after a while..

A bilingual display in the production scroll would prevent "secrets" to be
revealed and would deliver the necessary terms to comunicate.

How about that?

@Cecil: I think you neeed to relize who posted the "I don't want to learn German and this list won't help me communicate because I don't want to learn German and am an idiot because I am so close minded." PO Julius/PO Grant have never been fond of the idea of speaking a second language. Did you read their 9-11 post. If they had their way all languages would be eraticated (expecially German as they think Hitler, Nazis, and WWII still exist over there). He/they are also the people who think that everything should follow what they do/what his/their country does. So basically, what am I going to say to this... well... ignore the idiots who don't want to join hands and find a way to join the world and would rather seperate it. Besides, we have to rp the fact that there is more than one language in the world of Illa. Wouldn't it be good rp to act as though your character would have a use for knowing a bit of the language he or she doesn't know?

@Julius: Suck it up. People who speak mostly German or don't feel comfertable speaking in English have all right to stick to their language. I do the exact same as my German is hardly Illa worthy, though it has come in handy. There are many times when I consitered getting someone to teach people in the knighthood the old language so they could communicate better with people who speak mostly that language. I really hope you didn't take learning a second language like most Americans. Take the years you have to in school and then forget it. I think the German poet Goethe said it the best. "One who does not speak a forgien language can never truely learn his own."

@Everyone: A list would still help people who DO want to make an attempt at a different language or who are actually trying to learn it. It would also add to the rp because how do some characters learn to speak both languages in the first place?

Though one thing I want to point out. If we were going to speak a world language we should all be switching to Manderin Chinese. Now that would be fun to learn. :P

let's see.... some of japanese and chinese ^.^ not in their kanji form of course xD

english => japanese => chinese

good morning = ohayo = cao an
good afternoon = konnichiwa
good night = konbanwa = wan an
thank you = arigatou = xie xie
sorry = gomenasai = tui pu chi
I = watashi (boku for casual) = wo
my name is ... = watashi no namae wa ... desu = wo te ming ce se ...
be quiet = damare (urusai can be use as well but it's more like noisy)
stupid = baka = pen tan ( :P )

the chinese way to write in alphabet is... actually incorrect but... it's easier to pronounce it for those who knew alphabet ^.^

the way to pronounce the "a" is different from how english pronounce it for both japanese and chinese. it's like the "a" in... mm... can't figure it out.. xD :P
