Ways to earn Illarion money.

Post by Karl »

Apparently, the server can be hosted for one more year before the e.v. money runs out..
With a little donations, maybe two years.. But after that, what'll happen? Hope people keep donating? Make illarion pay-to-play? (And risk losing half the community?)

We've been discussing on IRCs, and are thinking of ways to earn Illarion money.. First thing we came up, is paid feature.. WHILE keeping in mind that Illarion is a roleplaying game, and try not to limit our imagination for roleplay too much. We thought of :

Paying for extra character slots
Paying for special races

What else could we think of?

Become member of the illarion Society and just pay because you like the stuff the boys and girls do here for us :)

<Haedrian> I think the 'easiest' way is to put ads on the page...
^^
Good idea. I wouldn't mind google ads here and there.

I like both of these ideas.... and much better then google ads though I think the google ads may pay better in the long run.... suppose the ads were just on the forum pages? You could also have some special feature to the game a pay for....uber sword etc.

@Character slots: Fine, I don't see how it affects others that you have 1 extra char.
@Special races: Naaah, that's lame. Anyway, the special races don't have anything BETTER than the other races, they're just rped differently, it'd just mean noone played them.

if it will get pay-to-play I'd only pay 1 time, and I wont pay over internet, my parents wont let me do that.

For ads: yes I like that idea.

Extra char slots is a nice idea, but I am not sure, if it will bring much money..

Paying for special races? No. An exampel: A great RP isn't abel to pay, he will not get a special race.
A utter noob pays and gets a special race.
I think nothing more to say to this point.

Just put one add here, and command all of Illarion forums to click it repeatedly, that's how you get more money :)

Ads on the site and forum would be annoying, but they wouldn't do anything but damage it aesthetically, and if they were from interesting sites (ie other rollplaying/online game sites) people would click them occasionally (aka misinformed newbs come to play illarion for hack&slash).
A lot of the fanfic sites I've been with have done fine by ad-linking to other similar sites, admittedly they probably didn't need quite as much money...
Speaking of....

Just how much are we talking about? I mean, how much money does it usually take to run Illarion for a month?

Well, paying for slots or so could be done but I doubt most people will need them too badly.

And... I don't care much on google ads or so, it may not pay horribly much but I'm sure they help. And I assume they also pay extra for people clicking on the links, so if we all click some links once in a while, that would already help a bit. So if it helps us keep Illarion, I say get some of them!

Perhaps we should do a poll on who would mind ads and who wouldn't?

I doubt the staff cares about who agrees or not.
And Googleads precisely states that it's against their rules for the host to literally 'ask people to click on links'.

Pay2Play and advertisement is not considered as solution now.

The staff knows about those possibilities in case its needed.

Illarion won't end because the University kicks us out ( what is not even absolutly sure now ).

So please calm down everyone.
