Once outside, he closed the door gently behind him. He looked up at the cold skies, as he thought to himself.
"Honorable man. Pitiful."
At those unspoked words, he smiled mischievously and then distanced from the building, making his way across the town and towards the west gate. He didn't give the people any interest anymore now, he didn't seem concerned with searching for the person any longer. He just left Trollsbane, trailing the path back to the harbor through that misty weather.
"My mates will be pleased to hear this news."
He was eager to share that information as finally, their task could possibly be on its way towards the end, or so he thought.

The sun was almost set, and the darkness that shadowed the entire island made it hard for the soldier to walk along the gloomy path. Luckily he wasn't far from the harbor, which brightened the area around it.
As he came closer, he could hear the sounds of chattering and laughing. They originated from his friends, his companions that waited in their small galley. When he was even nearer, he could hear their humorous voices.
"You woman! You can't even stand two beers!"
Some laughing followed and then, another person responded.
"Shut that filthy mouth of yours! I can best you with my sword!"
The same person had suddenly burped loudly. Again there was hearty laughing between them. Dalan could obviously tell they were enjoying themselves and their beloved beer. He thought to himself:
"Those damn bastards. They're partying without me."
When he walked further to the edge, their babbling came to a sudden silence as Dalan yelled at them.
"You damn stinkers! Quit drinking. I have brought some excellent news to you all."
Perfect silence settled for a moment. Just then, two people popped out of the ship's cabin, both dressed pretty much identically to Dalan. One staggered heavily, and had to support himself against the first thing he could find. He was still laughing to himself, blubbering barely recognizable words. However the other seemed to have more self-control, he was more serious now, and was anxious to hear Dalan's report. He was the one who spoke first.
"Did you find him?"
Dalan smiled at him, as if that action acknowledged the question.
"Indeed. It seems like he's a citizen of this town called...Trollsbane.
"Good work lad."
"Eh you bet. Seems like I am the only one from us who can accomplish anything."
The soldier on the ship then waved for Dalan to hop on board.
"Now come on, join us for some festivity. We will send a message to his lord tomorrow morning, then we'll await further orders.
"Aye, aye, we will."
And so Dalan walked across the plank and onto the ship. The three returned to their cabin, and shared the beer amongst themselves. The drinking men filled that night with random gossip, chatters and most of all, with continuous fanatical laughing.

In the next morning, Dalan, being the one with the least painful headache, wrote his report neatly on a piece of parchment. At the completion of the letter, he laid the quill carefully on the side, and waited for the ink to dry up before folding it. He then set alight a wax stick through the already-lit candle, and after a few seconds, he let some melted wax drip onto the letter. Finally he pressed his seal gently into the wax.
After finishing that job, he stood up and walked over to where a few cages were stacked, two doves habiting in two of those cages. He opened one of the coops, letting the dove hop out and onto his hand. He tied the letter carefully to its thin leg and then, giving a push to it outside, he let it soar up high and away.
Dusk had already approached when the same bird glided back to their ship, carrying a different attached letter, with a similar seal, but notably larger. Upon opening the letter, Dalan read it quietly, while the other two men waited anxiously for the result.
And the first reaction coming from the soldier was looking up at the two with a satisfied grin.
"My friends, you are now allowed to enjoy yourselves, have fun around this island, until a further note is received.
The two others grooved joyfully at the news, not that they didn't enjoy themselves when on duty.
"That's wonderful to hear! So, what's his plan?"
"He'll be sending us with some more soldiers on horsebacks. They'll be waiting just at the mainland's coast. Until then, have fun.
The third one then suddenly barged in.
"Perfect, simply perfect. The right chance to get us supplied with some more beer. I hope this forsaken island has some to offer.
And so, until a further message had arrived, they were free to roam the island as much as they liked, though it was mostly Dalan who adventured into getting to know some people, or rather, some women, as he preferred.

Late one night, the two albarian soldiers that stayed near their docked ship were having a slow, calm chat. Surprisingly, both were in their senses, none of them being drunk. The one with his back facing the galley then raised his voice, no longer a whisper between the two.
"Oh, look who's here."
The second man glanced behind his shoulder then, spotting their approaching friend, Dalan. The two though, immediately sensed a change in him. His pace wasn't at all relaxed, and his face carried a cold, quite possibly, angered expression. Both stared at him, awaiting for some reply or reaction.
But Dalan's gaze was directed to neither of the two. He gave them absolutely no attention, and in fact, he skimmed in between them, uncaringly shoving both apart. He strided strictly towards and up the plank and onboard of the ship.
The pushed men were even amused at his attitude, couldn't help but being curious aswell. Both of them watched after him but remained still in their positions, when one spoke out.
"Relax lad, what's wrong?"
That question was completely disregarded as Dalan headed straight into the ship's cabin, shutting the door roughly behind him. His other mates chuckled at the piercing sound, then, not minding keeping his voice raised, the same one uttered again.
"Bad time with a woman. Must be."
"Aye, sure it is."
A laugh from the two followed after their humorous claims. And their chat went on, jumping to every possible conclusions for Dalan's behaviour and amusingly bringing about jokes on each one.
Down into the ship's cabin, Dalan wasn't at all in the mood for jokes. He was before a desk searching frantically through the piles of papers and letters laying there. Nothing. He had hoped they had received another letter from their lord, but further orders hadn't arrived yet.
"Where is it? It must have arrived by now. They're taking longer than expected. We must leave this god forsaken island as soon as we can."
On giving up his futile search, he slammed his closed fists against the table. It was clear that there was anger in him, and this fact which he himself was conscious of infuriated him further.
"Why all this rage? No, no, I don't need to be. No need.
With that, he did calm down a little. Lowering his hands to his sides, he headed to the closest unmade bed and collapsed onto the tangled sheets and blankets. Facing the ceiling, he brought his arm over his forehead before slowly closing his eyes."
"She's just like any other. She deserves no more attention."
At that, a one sided smile settled on his lips, letting the place fall into perfect silence...

Another day had dawned and dusked. The stillness of that place was only broken by the light washings of the waves and the cracking wood of the burning campfire. It was the least he could have expected, to now, find himself in that isolated place, beside her.
"Why did I even come here?"
He questioned himself, but he really didn't know, he didn't understand. For her? Because he 'cared' for her? No, no, no, he will keep on denying that. He won't put his albarian pride aside. Not for one woman.
The compelling flame that he stared at slowly blurred as his eyes flittered until both shut. But his sleep was soon disturbed by a falling rolled parchment, causing his eyes to snap open and managing to catch a glimpse of the dove flying away and fading into the darkness. Unfolding the paper, he used the light emitted by the campfire to read the short content.
Further orders from His Lord have finally reached us.
You are requested to show up at our galley at once.
- Arbert Kindri
Dalan rubbed his eyes then, and after directing a glance at the sleeping woman, he pushed himself up and marched calmly towards the harbor.
"Finally..."
He murmured to himself. He wanted to leave this island fast. If it was what he really wanted or not, he wasn't sure, but he just convinced himself that it was so.
Reaching their ship, his two other mates were in the cabin discussing the affairs. Dalan headed straight in there, and snatched the letter from his friend's hands after spotting it.
"Ah, here he is. Have we disturbed anything?"
But Dalan paid no attention to his friends. His eyes skimmed through the sentences of the letter, reading the neat writing carefully.
Horses were position in the main land with a few more
troops. The meeting point is around three miles
away from the place of your departure.
You are now free to take action. Act wisely.
Do not let Him down.
- Messenger Matteus Rinda,
- In the name of His Lordship,
- Dimatreus of Catria
A smirk traced itself on Dalan's lips upon finishing the lines. He looked up to face the two and spoke with his usual severe tone of voice.
"Very well, lads. We are back on duty. Firstly, we are to gather as much information regarding him as possible. Let us not be too rash on this."
"But for tonight, you both should take a nice warm sleep, for this will be the last of your break."
And he left it at that, heading to the beds without further words. He seemed to avoid any kind of casual chat, and the two other had in fact noticed a small peculiarity in him but they decided not to question.
