animation

Post by Tanistian_Kanea »

how about some animations of characters like sitting.
mind might as well do paper dolling to if you going to do animations. mind, this might be more graphic proposal compared to gameplay. thaught i would put it up anyway. not sure what you have planned in that department.

edit: and how about some male fairy graphics?

I think what is most needed for new animations like sitting are graphics.

Nitram once calculated something like this:
9 races, including male/female we have 16 different avatars.
4 directions
about 10 animation phases

16*4*10 = 640

for every new animation. (I hope that´s right, at least it gives an idea ;) )

Umm

9 * 2 = 18...

-1 for male fairy
= 17

And sitting, just a sitting graphic thats all, no need for frames or anything.

Not quite, Korm.
As Llamaboy said, there's no need for frames at all. Shift + S for instance, would make the graphic of your character seated.
There are 9 races:
Human
Orc
Elf
Fairy
Gnome
Goblin
Lizard
Dwarf
Halfling
I'll suppose that Fairy has graphics for both races, just in case one comes up a day or another.
Each race has therefore graphics for male, and female, to the four directions. So that makes 8 graphics for each race. (currently)
9 * 8 = 72.

I'm sure whoever will do the graphics (Gobby?) can keep the topper region of the bodies (belt till head) and simply draw perpendicular legs so they appear as seated. So that's not THAT much.

But yeah, we'd need 72 new graphics. Not that bad, I think. It shouldn't be THAT hard..

Nah, because then they'd have to change the chairs too. The stools and the chairs aren't at the same level, so the character would look like they're floating above the chair or lodged inside it. Also they'd have to make it so the character would have to go in front/behind one part of the chair and front/behind another part of it. Lots more work then you say.

Oh and @Karl: Korm didn't post here.

ME KORM!

fairies and lizards have currently only one graphic for male/female, afaik.

of course there could be only the sitting graphic, for the time being, but I thought about smooth movements from standing to sitting.

Anyway, as AlexRose posted there are some other problems.

@Karl - no. The models no longer exist, this is the problem. We will need to make new char models, texture them, rig them, cloth them, and animate them before we get any new animations. That is ALOT of work.

There are some graphic artists here, it is possible they would want to donate some time, I wouldn't mind.

for one sit-down and stand-up about 50 to 100 hours...

i would mind, if i were the one to do it.

even the simple old jump and run games needed 8 pics for just two steps.

@Achae-
You know and own 3ds max, Poser, or Maya? If so of course there is room on the staff if you work that hard. I guess cinema 4d, XSI, and some others are good too.

@Korm-
Animations are not hard once you have everything rigged properly. I hope you understand we do not use 2d editors for this stuff. They are way too inefficient comparitively nowdays.

Just Poser and Bryce but I'm not proficient, I mainly use Photoshop
