Running on Linux

Post by Paean »

Hio, hoping someone can help me. I've reviewed most of the instructions here but I still can't get Illarion to run. I have Java WS version 1.5. I use Ubuntu for my operating system, it's actually Xubuntu (I use XFCE4) Edgy Eft v6.10. I've enabled "Xinerama" support in X. I've tried every possible combinations of settings imaginable - full screen, windowed, 16 bit, 24 bit, and 32 bit diplay. Nothing works! My screen resolution is 1024x768. A

Any suggestions? Any more info needed? :S

Edit:

This is the error message in the log ..

Start the client and look at the login screen

There you click on options.

There on the tab "special"

There you find color depth or something.

Set this on 24bit and try again ;)

I've got it on 24 bit. I've also tried "high" and "reduced" graphics qualities. Neither have any effect. I'm going to try emailing Nevas. Could it be a bigger problem? Like something with my graphics card or drivers?

Thank you for your help, sir. However, I've chosen an operating system that is not filled with thousands of viruses which I must spend hours protecting myself against, does not cost hundreds of dollars to use some basic features, and is not limited severely in terms of how it works, looks, and "feels." Now maybe you don't like that choice. Fine, so be it. I don't insult you for choosing Windows over Linux. Maybe you could have the same common courtesy?

Jeez, almost as bad as a Tibia forum.

Uhm, if you havn't been helped yet, I might have a possible idea, though I'm not sure it works otherway around, wether there are any programs to emulate windows on Linux(Plus you'd need windows... and I'm not sure if Illarion works on older versions of it, I'd check, but really gotta go now) But there are such things, perhaps you've already tried, but I dunno, just suggesting.
For Running other OS' on Windows you got MS Virtual PC(and it should run Linux and Mac too), so I figuired why not the other way around, and reserve a few mb for Illarion on an other OS.

Excuse me for any random/stupid mistakes, it's rather late here right now... so yeah.

Thanks for the thought Kevin, but I'd really like to get it running without any extra software. I emailed Nevas, I'm hoping he'll have some suggestions. We'll see. :)

Otherwise I'm still open to suggestions ..
