An illegal macro?

Post by Vindigan »

On my keyboard i have a key called "Alt Gr" dont know if everyone has but anyway..
Whenever you cast magic or make a potion, if you press Alt Gr after, it will do exactaly the same again..
Is this an illegal macro or is it supposed to do that?

I've never heard of an "Alt Gr" key before, althuogh I do know the Alt key, no Gr key.

That does seem to be a macro key that will repeat some series of events.

It would probalby be considered an illegal macro.

"Alt Gr" is a key, which is used to use the third letters on a key on the keyboard, like "shift" to use the second one.
This effect only works under win98 and is well known. Perhaps some win98-function, which repeats the last action, which was make with the "alt" key.

an other combination for the "alt gr" bar is "alt" and "control". if i member right, the programmers couldn't stop that function at windows. so it is a known problem

I don't think it was considered a "problem". I"m not sure but I think the Gr key is something found in german keyboards or something.

It's not a 'gr' key, its an 'ALT gr' key, opposite side of the space bar from the 'alt' key, at least on my keyboard, and my keyboard is English, or US, but i think Eng and US are the same. . . .

It was known in several versions, and was never declared as a bug.
Remember, if you use it too fast, you'll have either a bailoutproblem or you'll simply be standing around without possibility to move / defend.

Oldie, but it's always nice to have things explained to you isnt it?

Alt Gr key stands for Alternative Grouping key. it is designed to work as a combination of the Ctrl and Alt keys. It is useful in Dos to perform the ctrl-alt combination necessary for tertiary keys, as Dos does not support pressing 3 keys at the same time.

As for an illegal macro, i don't think it is as you still have to be there to push the key, it's just more a shortcut. A macro is something you could leave working and then you could just go away, this is just basically an alternate set of controls for the game which you might find easier to use.
Everyone agree?

The development team was aware since long ago and did not change it.
I don't think this needs to be discussed any further.

I do not agree. Because it doesn't seem to work on US keyboards, only German who have the AltGr key (which no US keyboard I"ve seen has). So it tends to give an unfair advantage to the German players.

This is very very odd indeed. US keyboards seem tobe the only ones who do not have this key.

I know french, german, swedish, danish, english, dutch, spanish and italian keyboards have this button, regardless of the maker.

I think it is because we use more buttons that are possible to make on the keyboard with simply 2 options per key. thats why we have Ctrl-Alt keys to for example make Euro, pound and dollar signs. And incidently also why we have the alt-gr key so we can do it in dos.

This is an interesting thing though, that it does not figure in US keyboards... worth a bit of investigative research.

That depends wether you could do the spell (or whatever it is) then hold down the alt gr key and it would repeat itself over and over.
