I know the stamina idea has been tossed around quiet a bit, but how about this instead. It would make the game rather unique (not that is isn't already) and would probably save some work. I got the idea from Lord of the Rings. In the book whenever Gandalf uses magic, he always seems tired. It's like using magic just "takes something out of him." It physically tires him.
Why not use the mana bar for stamina and mana? A person wouldn't get very tired just walking over grass or on the road, but if he were to be working hard or trekking across the mountains (the places where we can mine) then he might lose some stamina. It would of course come back, he would just have to slow down for a little bit. This would require people to place a few more attribute points in their other slots rather than placing them all in Intelligence and Essence because they would have to have more physical strength to be able to cast multiple spells in a short amount of time without potions.
Stamina/Magic

Stamina was proposed before, although by the use of a new bar that can only be replenished by resting and eating. I like the idea of a bar better than the use of mana... here is the link (I hope it works):

Oh, yes. I know that stamina has been proposed before. This is just taking that idea a little farther. Having magic use take away stamina would just make magic more unique and make mages more distinctive. Magic is supposed to be difficult and dangerous. It's really not either. It would also give a disadvantage to people who put nearly all their attribute points in intelligence and essence as opposed to those who had more in their strength and other stats.
I really can't think of the words to express the reasons behind my idea. I'll post them as soon as I can figure out how to say it.

Stamina idea seems good but it really isn't, it would make the weaker weakest. Mages aren't fighter therefore they dont fight much(obviously).
If you were to be taveling where would go about resting? on a hot desert? probably not nor would you like to be smashed into mush by some ogres.
Well great idea but seemingly unfitting to the game environment in my opinion.
Have a nice day

My idea isn't to have hard work or exertion effect mana, but to have magic use effect the fatigue of the player. I'm just saying change the mana bar to the stamina bar. It would still look exactly the same but have a new name and use. Magic isn't at all dangerous right now (unless you don't use a wand and accidentally click on yourself.) This would just make it a little dangerous by adding the affect that magic use would have on their body. Haven't you ever been very tired after taking a really important test like the SAT? I know when I competed in quizbowl competitions, I would always feel tired after a very hard game and after a tournement, I always felt exhausted. The mental strain was tough, and that was just a game. I just think that a magic user would have to feel pretty tired after casting several spells (after all, magic is a powerful, dangerous force, not just a game) and that this tiredness would effect their other activities, not just their spellcasting.
