Mishrack, why do older players necessarily drive the game in a good direction?
Some of the best roleplayers I know-in this game and others are in my age bracket.
I think a certain number of young players are good-young people tend to be more imaginative in their role play, in my opinion.

Brendan, Old players tend to bring maturity and stability into the game.

But I do agree with you, that the younger minds might be more productive than the old ones.

The younger players, I think, bring most of the enthusiasm to the game.
Whereas the older players bring stability. In Runescape, kids do strange things. One does something silly the others think is funny, so they all walk around doing that for a week. Here, ye have an older player that often steps in and asks "what the hell are you doing?".

An example: Last night a certain Dwarf was walking around pretending he was drunk, and rp'ed that he was having a shite in a lizards crop. Had this been in Runescape, I think everysingle player there would find that hilarious, and it would quickly become the favourite sport perhaps even with crapolympics associated with it.

Here though, most others that were on at the time simply chose to ignore him and his less than remarkable effort to gain some attention.

Having said that, One could think that a game only populated by elderly people eating through straws would be ideal...

I think a mix would be most potent though, as an elderly gaming group probably would make the game a bit "dry".

The results of my little survey is then that the brtoad player base is one of the many strong points of Illlarion, and a reason as to why this game is to fantastically binding that one can get lost in it.

Whenever someone is pretending to be drunk I just say they need a doctor or a priest because they are going crazy... wait, that was when people were using those annoying "abreviations" if they can be called that. I find those are mostly giberish to me.

I tend to agree with Mishrack, although older players bring enthusiasm also.

Perhaps the enthusiasm of the elder ones is not writen so visible in many single posts and topics like the younger ones ... it is more in the background.

Another thing that occurs to me is also that the younger players also tend to be the fireheads. Those that absolutely must participate in quests, and must do this and that to gain honour and I don't know what.

Whereas the older players seem more happy with just being there. i.e. they will become highly active if something happens, but from day to day they are as you would suppose normal people are. They tend to their crops, shops, deals, friends, and whatever and live normal lives. The younger players characteristically tend to involve themselves with everything. as soon as one activity is over, they jump to the next, as if they cannot simply calm dowm and just live a peacful life for five minutes.

Interesting little reflection that mirrors reality, eh?

Hehe, I'm still like that... I love getting the best of the villians...
But then again, I hate the aftermath, so after that ridiculous "Golden Sword" quest, I calmed down. After my boots were gnawed to peices and my sword shattered, I decided it wasn't worth the effort.

But that adventurer's spirit is still inside of me...
And I hope it stays that way.

I think it is good to have young and old players, as much as it is good to have young and old characters. It brings life to the game... ever imagined how the world would be if there were only adults or only kids? It would be either chaotic or just..nothing...

I would like to remark something though. It was said that younger players like a more energetic life full of adventures and such... Id like to remember the players, not only the younger ones, that I have noticed that safe a few people I know and myself, most people have something in their background story that makes them better than everybody else in one way or another, or something odd and dramatic that was supposed to change their lives and it doesnt. Same goes for those who play orc characters and are incredibly polite and generous... I understand that it is difficult to have a disturbing personality, but if you cant play an orc.. then dont.. or just find a pretty good reason not to be 'orc like'... personality diversification also adds a nice touch to the game, you just have to know how to do it.

I think all people bring their attachment to the game.
Older ones maybe more. More for the background and more understandig next to the other players.

In the discussion of "older" and "younger" players here, nobody actually defined the age groups that they were talking about. So some of you could very well be talking about some of the same people when you say young and someone else says old, depending on which age group each person thinks old and young means.

Yes Kalypse, a lot of people do seem to have horrible childhoods. I can't even count the amount of people who have had their village destroyed and their family killed. The one problem is they aren't all that bitter. I know if someone was to kill my family and destroy my home I wouldn't be acting like some of these people who have gone through incredible hardships.

My character did have a slightly bad childhood....dead mother, childhood sweetheart killed. But it's not as ridiculous to some other players backgrounds-here's a typical one:

Prince of faraway land.Family Killed.City ruined.Fled to Trollsbane.

If this continues to happen, half the population of Trollsbane will be royalty...

I agree with the thing about the childhood, but I like Sevious history yet I havent seen him for a long time. His was a trajety but he took so much time to write it that he deserves to be respected for it.

I wasn't speaking of Sevious. I was referring more to the Manneligs of Illarion. You know...the ones whom think they are god at RP-when in fact they just play a character from a novel or other game...
