Gods

Post by Salathe »

Right now gods are only used as RP, so i think that you should eb able to pray to your gods or give offerings to your god, and they respond. For example, have monsters drop bones when they die and for a follower of moshran they can offer them to their god and then they get something in return, like some money, or some power. And gods could slightly raise your skills if you pray to them, offer to them, or do things for them that they want to be done.

I think praying shouldn't be a possibility to earn money. Praying as a job isn't very realistically is it?
And to get more powerful: Then people would start to pray all the time to become more powerful or to improve a certain skill and everybody would lead a devout life.
Wunderful prospects for the future... "wow, how did you get this big amount of money?" " I prayed..."
"You're a very good smith. Did you train a lot of to become as good as you are?" "No I prayed three days and the gods helped me..."

if anything, praying will cost you - offerings.
it might offer you influence of your "aura", if one day all that should be introduced.

I think its a pretty cool idea, have different shrines to the gods located at various parts of the wilderness and after you make some kind of offering there is a chance you could get random effects from it. i.e.: luck up for 20 minutes

aslo there could be unkown objects that various gods like/dislike. If you offer the wrong thing to a god, it could anger them and get a negitive effect.

Is it always neccessary to pray to a god, if there is a good result to you?
What about thanksgiving for a good hunt or fight e.g.
And you can well give offers to gods now. Everypriest of a god will take donations and offers, maybe to build with them a shrine or temple of his god.
Shrines exist also and where mostly used for praying to one god.
E.g. the shrine in the dwarven town is dedicated to Irmorom, the shrine in the monsterless cave is mostly used to pray to Malachin (the ceremonial cave which is used by the Grey Rose).
And in RP-way, prayings to gods with priests will bring people, which maybe posessed, freedom from there problems.

I like this idea but this is how i think it should work:

When you create a charcter you choose a god(or no god)

Each god has different advantages
E.G.) The god of the earth would give you advantages in
druidry and farming but penaltys in smithing and
woodcutting.

You would have a blessed level (couldnt see it) and it woud affect sucess rates in all skills this would be affected by offerings at shrines (giving items to a preist. for now because that would be the only way) and by using certain skills. EG.) Smithing would raise the points from a fire god but wood cutting and carpentring would have bad effects.

Aragon is right, priests, which are the symbol of their chosen god accept offerings and donations now ... For example, I am collecting currently to build a Temple to Elara (thanks to all those who have donated so much already!).
@Galdriel, An aura...that would be nice as an ability for priests. Perhaps for priests that serve different gods there could be different auras. Say for a priest of Malachin...a battle aura...

ooooooo i didnt understand why burying bones god your prayer up. But if this was done, more talk of gods would be in the rp.

gods could enhance your weapons, like the axe of speed, and it attacks faster. Or the sword of power, and now its stronger. You could offer rings depending on their color. Red for bragon, blue for Zelphia, Black for Moshran, green for the god/goddes of nature.
But i didnt get this idea of runescaep. And what is at the top of the monastary, my prayer lvl was never high enough to go up there.

burying bones is a ripoff of runescape, you get a few exp for each bone you bury, there are a ton of people that run around and take bones and bury them in a completly stone duengon, i dont want bones, nothing off runescape.
