Weapons on your back
For me switching weapons in and out seems to often cause lag that makes a monster easily catch up with me even if i am trying to move away to pull out a bow or range axe ect.
Logically, a person could carry one set of weapons in their hand, and another on their back for a quick change. Instead of having to dig around in a chest for another set up durring battle, i think it would be awefully cool to be able to have an interchangeable set on your back.
for instance you have a sheild and sword in hand and a bow and arrows or a two handed axe equiped in a "back" slot. Click something or press a key combination and you will switch the weapon(s) in your hands with the weapon(s) on your back. If you have a sheild or staff on your back ect it wouldnt have any effect unless it was put in your hand.
This makes alot more sense than fumbling around and fighting lag trying to switch weapons in and out not just OOC but IC as well.
Im not asking to do this with an indefinate number of weapon set ups, just a secondary attack mode. I think it would be cool =)

If you think in real, you are holding a shield and a sword in your hand, where do you put them? If you don't let them drop to the ground, you have to draw your sword back in your belt and hang your shield around your neck or elsewhere, than taking the bow and the arrows ... this will also take time ... to much, if you are in a fight ...Toren the Myrimdon wrote:for instance you have a sheild and sword in hand and a bow and arrows or a two handed axe equiped in a "back" slot. and therefor, you can also take it from your bag into the figure of your char ... it takes the same time as in real.

Well i would expect a delay between triggering the switch and it taking effect, and probably even leaving you ungaurded for a second.
I just think having them on your back would be a better than digging through your chest and trying to fumble around with arrow keys, picking out how many arrows you want, and being ready for a potion if you get lagged up, maybe it just seems ackward to me, or i am ackward... and id like to see a little less mouse work in Illarion anyways =P
doubt it would be much at all to code.

I also like the idea. I believe this is proposal is the same as a feature in the game Diablo II.
If you think about it, if somebody has a sword in the hand and a shield and they just sheath the sword and clip the shield to their belt and then pull the bow off there back all in a second or two. They could do it that fast in real life, so i think that it is realistic, and it also can be useful in the game.

Okay let me clarify this from a class-balance point of view.
I will use fighting demons as the example:
a mage can strap on two sheilds, stack up a few flames and pretty easily hold the demon in the flames to kill as many as he wishes.
a fighter on the other hand has to strap on two sheilds to be able to take the abuse as well, but cant really do any damage to the demons like this.
The fighter can take the hits a bit more easily, but if you cant kill it and take the hits at the same time whats really the point?
Now if your able to switch between two sheilds and a bow and arrow or range axe without having to prance around and fumble in your inventory and probably pick up an extra monster or two while doing so, you can switch between the two and although it would take more effort, be able to kill demons alone like the mage.
No need to change the time it would take to do the switch, just make it easier so you can do it without getting overwhelmed with clicking and running while keepign an eye on your potions, health, number of arrows your picking up, lag from the qued commands, ect.

Here is my opinion, things are fine the way they are. The 6 slots near the top of the inventory screen count as your belt, sheath, anything other then a bag. Now lets think logically, wouldn't it take you longer to sheath one sword and unsheath another then dragging your mouse from one side of your mouse pad to another? As for the caused lag, You just need to master the art. I've seen people who can type while moving their characters at the same time.
Well, I played D2 but I never used that funktion(I always hack&slay with my Longswords). But I think your idea is good. Especially the bow or crossbow option is perfect. Maybe you could have a slot for distance weapons and a slot for close combat weapons.
Sorry for mistakes, my english is "made in Germany".

It was never meant for many single persons to be able to defeat the demon as you described. After all, it's one of the most powerful monsters in the game, meant to be defeated with teamwork. I think a decent fighter stands a good chance simply with a sword and shield against most normal monsters if he knows what he's doing.
The procedures now makes enough sense to me as it is. At least now there's a little varying in a fighter's quickness and ability to move around while changing weapons. You could get a delay if you make a mistake with your mouse or something, fumbling while taking off something or putting on something. If it's reduced to a command, then everybody can do it the same speed and do it perfectly each time.
If you want to get ready a specific amount of arrows then seperate your stock ahead of time like you would have to, where ever you get your arrows from.

Alright both sides have good points, but i was just wondering, we strive so hard to make this game realistic, but we always have to keep in mind that this is a game and a games first goal ALWAYS is fun. So for the future, next time we propose ideas, it shouldn't always be "no, that isn't perfectly realistic" It should be "Ok that is a fun idea and is fairly realistic"
