PKs, rules and evil roleplay
After my holiday I am slowly working up all those emails and board messages I recieved. Most of them are about PKs and require a lot of time to verify them.
Today I have banned or deleted several people. I would like to send them emails about what they are accused and what their punishment is, but many of them give wrong email adresses or no emails (perhaps they knew they would get in trouble with the admins right when they came to the game...), so be warned: If you don't give your email address, the lightest punishment the "warning" can't be send to you and I start with the next higher punishment without informing you. I won't take the time to monitor if you are online and talk to you in the game.
-------------
One guild was founded recently, called the "Snipers". They had a "secret" website (but it is linked from Dipsticks website), so no one should find out.
Here are some cites from the website:
"Youve been selected either because your a PK or lives in the face of evil"
"we hate rules"
"Me and dipstick, last night, started attacking everyone that was before us"
also there were advices how to kill other people without beeing seen (bugusing).
From what you could read there, it seems they focus on
- killing everyone
- powergaming
- using bugs to achieve their goals
Since there are only three players in this guild, two in leading positions and the third player was in trouble for another thing anyway, all have been punished.
-----------
I read a discussion from a gang of three random PKers with a roleplayer and from this discussion, you could see what they think about roleplaying (in short: evil is killing everyone, see also below) . All three have been known for random PK. Two have been punished, one is still monitored.
----------
The accuse, most players use for killing is that they are "evil". This alone is their reason to kill anyone on sight. This is only a sign of a dumb player that has no imagination and creativity (I am talking about the PLAYERS, not the CHARACTERS). We don't need those kind here.
How many people just walk around and kill without any reason in RL? Is it one in 10 million? In Illarion it seem to be 1 out of 3.
All those random PKers obviously want to play a psychopatic killer - but does he kill without reason?
Imagine one of those psychopaths:
This is Simon Godefrey. His parents imprisoned him in the cellar when he was a little child, because he lied to his parents. The cellar was dark, no light source. During a robbery his parents got killed and Simon had to stay in the dark cellar for a month, eating insects and drinking the water from the floor. After a month he was found by someone and freed. Now he is adult. He doesn't sleep in rooms, only under the open sky. He won't enter a building. Every evening he lights a huge fire that spends him lots of light till the morning. He has always a small cart behind him, with lots of food and water supplies. Maybe he will go and kill everyone that tries to put out his fire? Perhaps he will also have strong reactions on persons that try to force him go into a buildings, or blow out a candle they are carrying? He will cut of the hand of everyone touching his food or water ressources.
The whole time, Simon walks around, he will take quick looks around, so noone will trap him. Perhaps his head shakes all the time and his nose is running. His cloth will be ragged from living in the wilderness. Maybe he will stutter and always mumble senseless sentences.
What can you learn from this?
Playing an psychopat involves more than: log in, kill, log out
You must use the #me command often, you must have a certain background that you are aware of. In fact, playing a psychopath will be one of the hardest roles to play, but it is chosen mostly by the least gifted roleplayers.
It took me 10 minutes to develop this character. It would need some more background story, but this is already more of a character concept than most players have. If you have time to play three hours a day, you will maybe find the time to think about a story for half an hour.
All other "evil" persons are "evil" because they do, what is best for them, even if this involves hurting someone. They won't kill if they don't gain something from it. They would kill someone if this gets them money or something else. Maybe they kill for revenge. But killing brings the risk of being caught by the authorities or the mob, so the killers think about a murder before: Do I gain more than I risk?
I often hear stupid arguments like "You can't delete me, there must be good and evil in the game. How should I be evil without killing someone?". But this arguments originate mostly by players that don't do any roleplay. If someone would mail me that Simon Godefrey killed him for no reason, I wouldn't delete Simon. Same goes for good played "real evil guys".
PS: I won't write emails to everyone involved

nothing has be done, because this requires server changes and - if it shouldn't be a temporary solution - an almost ready server (i.e. profession system ...)

and i have been talking with him, aragon, peace keeper, and cosmaterra, about it..i agreed to help dyluck any way i can, even if my life is taken for it..

Yes, he did get "gunned down". You guys were stupid enough to think that nobody could see you there, so all i had to do is go up on the roof, and start casting spells, thats it! Because you were so overconfident, all you did is stand there as i killed you (you cant say you were paralyzed, i used that spell only twice)!!! But you couldn't run, Roke and sean were blocking you! What a sticky situation you got yourself into!!! I have no doubt that the person who shot me at the Guild Council meeting was from the snipers. Many people feel alot safer now. Thanks Bror.

Even though we may have slowed these lunatics, we can't expect them to give up.
I suggest everyone watch out at the Illympics, as they might strike.
Have a safe day from psychopaths, both in RL and in Illarion

In the near future
I will try and write a good bit on ideas of HOW TO BE EVIL for those who wish it.
Also I invite others to add thier own opinions into it "but don't add opinions about my own thoughts don't build or take off me just create your own idea."
Don't need a huge string or argument about how you think it shoul dbe this.
Be creative let everyone see your individual viewpoints.
Expect this post in the next week

@Dipstick:
You may have logged off, but that just doomed your friend Spaniard, since instead of two people to hunt, we only had one

Grmpf.
People, ou surely know that "logging" is not really a honorable rpg-possibility to escape.
An idea, i dont know IF it could be used, would be this one :
If you log out, your char stays in the same place for about 5 to 10 more seconds.
In that state, it should be impossible for others to lock on the person as a target, but persons who have him targeted already, should still be able to hit him. That could help.
