Gladly I would like to accept their offer Roke, but I am not very powerful unfortunately your language. But much one can nevertheless undertake something, which I mean abilities improve could.

The Magic Academy is hereby closed.

The Academy funds will be donated for public use when one is found someday. If not, it will be donated to a worthy cause.

Ummm...

May I ask why? Why was the accademy closed?

This seems kind of sudden to me, even though I wasn't a member. I've seen nothing about it in this thread.

Ever since the new magic system way back, the Magic Academy has not been running to its fullest. I think Dyluck realized that the first time, but decided to try again, and it didn't go so well. Most people figured that since they couldn't get very far in the ranks they shouldn't try at all. I think that this is the reason. It will be missed though.

The Magic Academy still gets plenty of applicants Astral, too much in fact that there aren't enough active teachers (hint hint) and I haven't been able to find any suitable recruits. So I just decided to close it down for a while and take some time for other matters.

I think Roke has offered to be a teacher before, and he's quite active, so why wasn't he made teacher?

I don't know, but that certainly doesn't sound like it would be closed just a short time.

No offense to Roke, but he wasn't the "suitable recruit" I was looking for.

Yes, I wasn't sure how long I'd close it, so I decided to make sure the academy funds were accounted for.

I don't think that some of the students would be very happy if the money they had payed for tests with was given away when the Academy wasn't closing for good.

@Roke: Watch out for vases on top of your toes :)

@Astral: I said that in case I was closing it for good. Like I said, I was unsure how long I'd close it.

Well, Dyluck, since you like trashing on my guild, I'm going to trash on yours. :) Now, What are your standards? To teach people to learn magic? hhm...just thinking, that sounds a lot like my guild, doesn't it? Or is your reason to have this guild to "Have a place of learning"? Oh my. A place of learning? do you mean, teaching new people how to use magic? cause thats what you were ratting me about! I think this guild sounds like you powergame, although, i do not. My guild isnt officially set up yet! :!:

Nilo:
Calm down. Relax. He never "trashed" your "guild." If he was trashing it he would have been completely insulting of it. What he was doing was pointing out the fact that you are creating a guild for ooc purposes, which I might add is quite true. You dont have the right to trash-talk the Magic Academy either. You know nothing about it, nor have you ever taken the time to find anything out about it.

Unworthy Nilo

Who are you, that you can trash on the Magic Academy, one of the older and honorouble guilds and schools of Troll's Bane.
I don't think, that you even have searched and informed yourself about the MA. They have the honourable and guiltiest teachers, all well known, wise and trustworthy.
Don't mess your little attempt of building a school with this building of education.
Remember, the one who will put himself high will fall to the deep.
And before you start to complain, I'm not a teacher and I have never used the MA. I'm only an old inhabitant of Troll's Bane, living here for years. And trust me, I know, what I have seen and heard in this years!

Objectives and Activities

Magic Academy:
-raise money (ic reason)
-teach magic (ic reason and activity)
-pass exams (ic activity)

Nilo's guild:
-raise money for hobiteers (ic reason)
-practice magic (ic activity and ooc reason for skills)
-help "new players" (ooc reason)
-raise magic reisistance (ooc reason and powergaming acitivy)

Nice try, but the Magic Academy has long stood legitimately and is on the official links section of Illarion's website. Go take your garbage elsewhere to another world, as you would soon disappear from this world.

Ha!
help "new players" (ooc reason)
-raise magic reisistance (ooc reason and powergaming acitivy)
Not true. We dont care about the magic resistant levels anymore, maybe you should be more updated before accusing?. help new players? how is that ooc? by helping them get on a start with armour and a few magic books? whatever
raise money for hobiteers (ic reason)
No. We are not raising money for the hobiteers. We are going to have a festival for them, to help raise money, but we, ourselves arent going to.

Get it straight before you criticize my guild.
-teach magic
vrs.
-practice magic
okay. Practicing magic. hhm....maybe killing pigs with magic? killing ogres wiht magic. Ever think of that? rather than killing people and powergaming with magic?

Next time, try think about something before you accuse.

Morgaine speaks...

Post by Morgaine Le Fay »

my dear Nilo,

there is a difference in teaching the arts of magic and brabbeling away what spells are currently existing in illarion... there is also a difference in teaching someone the pracitcal ways of spells or casting spells on pigs...

as i see it you take all those comments very personally and would therefore ask you not to do so. instead of getting angry with people that are telling you what you are doing wrong - or better to say - in a not appropriate way, you should reconsider things. critisism here is not meant to hurt/attack you personally or to discourage you - it is meant to help you to understand certain things.

by the way the magic academy is not a guild, it is a school for mages and mages to be. the MA has no "members", only teachers, that are willing to prepare their protegée to pass the exams that are offered by the academy. no mage is forced to do any of those exams that is offered nor does it mean the world if a mage decides not to participate. everybody participates out of his/her own free will and interest - the major thrill, i suppose, is that you can find out by yourself how skilled a mage you really are - call it ego-boost if you like... on the other hand it is quite challenging if you are given the chance to compare yourself with another and to test your own limits.

with regards,
Morgaine Le Fay - priestess to Cherga and sympathizer to Elara

Besides, the magic academy is no guild...

Also, some of the most respected inhabitants of Illarion are teachers...
You would do well to apologise, as you will be supremely embarassed if you ever cross paths with any of the teachers...

Greetings everybody,

Nilo, I think you should reformulate the goals of your guild, because in my view, you are talking too "ooc-like".
And by the way I want to ask the apreciated members of the magic academy what is the difference between teaching magic and practise magic + magic resistance exept the formulation?
Well I m not a mage at all, but I m just curious.
