Dear Citizens,

With the 'Blood month' of Mas quickly approaching, I began to think of all the unfortuanate things that could happen here and elsewhere. I was just at the Grey Rose the other day, and found out that food is in short supply there and considered valuable (especially breads and cakes).

What would happen if there was a drought or famine?

We farmers are used to storing away food for the winter and never fear. But what of friends and family in other parts of Gobiath?

There isn't much we could do this year, but next year, I would like to propose we build Grain storage bins "Silo's" in which farmers could store extra grain for this purpose. They would be small towers to hold the grain safe and dry. They would be easy to build.

There is room for these I believe north of the fields near the cherry orchard.

Inside these, we will store grain and other food in reserve, to be used only for emergencies, or to send to other lands that have a crisis. The amount of Grain will be kept on the Main page under "Treasury".

For my part, I will donate 2000 Grain toward our supply, as well as many of the materials, but I would like to see more stored there such as Flour and seeds.

To Build 2 Silo's: ~ Für den Bau von 2 Silos:
Silver ~ Silber 40 / ( 20 )
Bricks ~ Steine 1000 / ( 0 )
Sand ~ Sand 400 / ( 400 ) Alles!
Buckets ~ Eimer 40 / ( 40 ) Alles!
Shovels ~ Schaufel 20 / ( 8 )
Hammer ~ 20 / ( 4 )

I think it is a good way for us, as farmers and cooks, to supply food to the rest of Gobiath during the winter, or during a crisis.

Thank you,
~Dusty Bottoms, Mayor

Vielen Dank,
~Dusty Bottoms, Bürgermeister

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~From the pages of the City Records~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Onionball - The best game in Gobiath
”Once upon a time there were three halflings, each a farmer. Two of the halflings, man by the name of Frado and Erno were cabbage farmers and each one took his pride in growing the best and largest cabbage. And so it came, that these two halflings couldn't stand each other. In between the cabbage fields of Frano and Erno lay the onion field of the halflingwoman Sanya, who's onions grew rather well, of which she didn't make a big deal. In fact the onions grew so well that they spread into the adjacent cabbage fields, which of course made Frado and Erno nearly mad. But they both liked Sanya very much, so they didn't say anything to her. They unplugged the onions from the ground and threw them over the field of Sanya onto the cabbage field of the rival. In the evening the onion smelling feet would tell, who had gotten the most onions and had therefore lost.”
History: The origins of Onionball are unclear. Perhaps it was the fore runner of 'Tomato' fighting some warriors use today. Whatever the history, it was the only 'sport' in Gobiath. It is well-known that the original field used to be in Trolls Bane, until it was replaced by the Arena. A second field was made in Greenbriar due to Halfling's unusual love for the game, as well as the plentiful supply of Onions. Today, the only field is found in Greenbriar.
The Field: Looks like a 'lazy' figure eight. The players stand within the grassy parts of each circle, but do not cross the 'muddy' outlines. One player to a circle. A Referee stands toward the middle.
The Ball: A Smelly Onion.
The Rules:
1) A player (A) begins with the ball and prepares to throws the Onion.
2) The other player (B) begins to walk around randomly within his/her circle. Standing still will automatically give the throwing player (A) a point.
3) Player 'A' throws the Onion trying to put it in front of player 'B' so player 'B' walks onto or touches it.
3) If Player 'B' walks onto or touches it, player 'A' gets a point. If not, it misses. The referee determines a point or miss.
4) Whether point or miss, player 'B' now gets the Onion and prepares to throw it while player 'A' begins to walk randomly to avoid it, and the game continues as written above.
5) The game continues until one player reaches 3 points first and wins. Historically, it has been 10 points, but this makes for longer games. The choice is up to the referee.
So go, practice and enjoy the game!
~Dusty Bottoms~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Aus das Dokument von Greenbriar~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Dear Lonsur,

You've done a fantastic job with updating the laws. Thank you for your work. I noticed some good changes that help the citizens report any misconduct and therefore make them safe both from within and without.

It is a good set of laws, that hopefully, will only get better as time goes on.

I hope everyone will read the 'updated' laws. They are very nice.
Thank you.

Dear Lady,

We know many people use a portal to reach us and don't wish to discourage that.
The portal to Greenbriar is at the town entrance (Outside Town) and is therefore allowable.

The law states not to use portals within town limits. This means you'll need to leave town to use a portal. There have been abuses in the past of portal use.

Once the new town limits are built and expanded, this portal entry will be moved to the new entrance too. Never fear, dear lady, we will not prevent anyone from coming 'to' Greenbriar, it is the leaving that has bothered us.

~Dusty Bottoms.

I demand citizenship in the town of Greenbriar.
Many moons I've spent along the isle of Gobaith, and no town other than the Briar has offered me a safe haven and respect without considering my past.
I am now the founder, thanks to Mayor Dusty Bottoms, of the isle's only tailoring guild, and am most thankful to all the citizens of the town.
Therefore, I hope I will be allowed to have my name displayed on the list.
Thank you,

Johnny Lant.

Demand Citizenship? wow, I haven't heard that one before.

No need to demand, only ask. Of course you are welcome. We only ask that you consider Greenbriar as your home and help it however you can, and you are doing a fine job of that already.

Welcome to Greenbriar Johnny!

The building festival was a success. about 15 attended and we ate sausages and rolls while we watched an amazing game of Onionball. The last match was very exciting as Lonsure matched up with Roveig Grann. Many times I thought Lonsur was going to hit Roveig, only for Roveig to dodge at the last minute. It finally eneded with the winner as Roveig Grann. He was awarded with 5 silvers prize and Lonsur, the runner up was awarded 2.

Thanks to everyone who made the Hospital expansion possible. We will have more festivals as this as each project is completed.

Thank you all!

((Ubersetzte Bitte?))

Dear Citizens,

I have recieved a dove from our General, Mark Armstrong saying simply that he will be traveling for a while. In the meantime, I will assume the duties as General until his return.

With Mas approaching, I think it is important to maintain and reform our militia and navy. It is in poor shape and probably inactive. To fix this I propose to reorganize it, have regular trainings and pay for all those who attend. We will also build some ships later after a dock is built.

Pay for each soldier/sailor:
1 silver per training 'session'. 1 silver per day Militia is needed.
Officers pay is higher depending on Rank.

I call upon any warriors, sailors, Police and citizens of Greenbriar, to meet me tomorrow at the onionball field for enlistment and training. Non-citizens may apply too, and gain the right of Dual-citizenship. A militia is only called for defense, but we must be ready just in case.
((Sunday, 4pm GMT at Onionball field))

We will have another in a week.
((Wednesday, 10pm GMT))

It is important to note, that all levels of use of a sword or bow are acceptable. If you can wield a pair of scissors, we still need you.

Highest Ranks will go to those with the highest skills. The Militia will be reformed and regular trainings will take place. The Militia is only called up in case of attack upon Greenbriar.

In service,

For our citizens of the old language ~ Für unsere Bürger der alten Sprache, Dusty schrieb:

~General Dusty Bottoms (stellvertretend)

.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.-*-.

~

I want to add that a position as Captain can only be given to soldiers who speak the new or the new and the old language, since communication within the militia and especially during an operation is of top priority.

I have already informed Sheriff Orfin that according to law he is to lead a platoon as Captain and his Deputies shall assist him. Sheriff´s and Deputies`presence at the training is expected, non-appearance has to be reported to the General.

I regret reading that Achae will depart.
But in the face of Mas we have to postpone the election of a new Alderman.

Dear Citizens,

I have just recieved word of a Kingdom formed at our door.

The Kingdom of Roushan.

It appears they have many knights, and several other leaders have joined their cause.

They have submitted a generous offer to join their Kingdom as we are one of their neighbors and I have posed many questions and recieved good answers.

Their purpose is to unite Gobiath under one banner through peaceful means if possible. I find no flaws in their plans.

They have offered for us to remain an independent city-state, but given their protection in return for fealty (Allegiance). Nothing would change for us really.

I have given this much thought......

I have decided to accept their offer.

When I began the "County of Briar" it was with the intention to provide an example of unification. I was hoping others would also wish to come together. They haven't and our county failed.

Now, with Roushan, we have a chance to unify under a King, whom I believe has the connections, desire and manpower to actually do it. The new city of Roushan will be built to the east, protecting all of us in the west.

In return, Greenbriar remains as it is. I have the Title of Baron in the Kingdom, and a vote at Court to represent us, and we gain the protection of many powerful knights. I will report to the King, or his appointed Duke for affairs. Otherwise, nothing changes for Greenbriar, in fact we will be safer.

As I said, I believe it is in our best interest to join with Caelum and this Kingdom of Roushan, to unify Gobiath peacefully. It's worth a try.

But what are our duties with this fealty?

~

How can you beleive that a man who has cause enough trouble to become unwelcome in nearly every city, can unite them? They would sooner see his head on a pike! I have no personal agenda against him, in fact he's a trusted customer. His history however, doesn't let him sit well as an ambassador to the rest of Gobaith.

I speak on behalf of myself and not Zzyathis entirely when I say that I detest this idea. Dusty you are a close friend to me and I have always choosen to stand beside you on any decision you make but know that I only see this choice as a grave mistake. Honestly I see the briar safer joined with the temple or a demon for that matter...anyone but Grant who will certainly within a short time start trouble and only drag the briar with him. The harbor has been claimed by him and this alone will cause much conflict not only with my people who are commonly in use of the harbor but it will cause conflict with near all who inhabit the isle. Please as a friend I ask you to reconsider this. Zzyathis as you know was planning an alliance with Greenbriar but as it is now I do not see this as possible. If you do change your mind and would have it only send me dove and I'd rid the isle of the red headed nuisance myself much sooner than see yours or the briars name made filthy by the upcoming and foolish actions of your king.

Dusty,

It pains me to write these words, but I must. If you and Greenbriar will swear fealty to Grant Rothman, who, as it has already been written, is seen as a criminal in most towns of the island, including my own, and who would simply lay claim to a huge portion of the island - including the harbor! - then I must terminate all support to Greenbriar. I will complete the order we had already arranged, but after that, if you continue to support a criminal as your 'king', we will have no further official dealings.

This saddens me to no end, but I will not support a criminal-king, even indirectly.

Dear Dusty Bottoms,

I kindly request you to remove my name from your list of citizens.
Although our path did not cross for a long time, I still happily dwelled in the wonderful Greenbriar, even in the darker times when was afraid it would be consumed by the growing darkness in its south.

And just after everything recovered from the struggles and I was informed about your return, you throw it infront of another carnivore.

I will never bend my knees to a human king!
No true elf ever will!

Farewell, I seek a better place.

I am no longer an Alderman but I also have to add my objection, being still a citizen of Greenbriar. This new arrangement could easily lead to the town of Greenbriar no longer being independent.
