The verity of night

Post by Ascius »

Ascius rolled from one side to the other in the warm, tender bed. He was sleeping in the small room with stone walls, no decorations on the walls, no furniture that was not necessarily needed. The room was cold and sometimes even a little clammy, but it had been home for a few month.

He was breathing more heavily than normal for soneone who is asleep. A few drops of cold sweat were running from his forehead. He was dreaming. Though, the dream was not a bad one at first. It was not a bad dream for someone who didn't know what would happen next..

He was standing in Tol Vanima. He was looking up at the beautiful city, but even there was pure nature and one of the most stunning architecture he had ever seen, it looked cold to him. He grabbed into his pocket, feeling for the small, round item in there. He walked up, slowly, slower than normal. He saw the world as if some slight fog was all around his eyes. It was all a picture of past events.

He walked into the city and upstairs. There was a young lady kneeling in front of an altar. She was praying. Praying to Oldra. He walked around the place, she not noticing him yet. He stood behind her a few steps and stopped. She was beautiful, innocent. She was the perfect victim for someone coming on a bad purpose. It would not be difficult. He grabbed into his pocket again.
Time was shifting in his dream. He saw pictures of a far past. Flames and smoke, screaming people. He saw himself in war for Salkamar a short moment. The dream jumped back to the girl and Tol Vanima.

He was standing in front of her, nearly smiling. She was smiling. He had talked to her. "I am a traveller", he heard his own voice speak to the girl. He was afraid now. He knew what had to come now. He didn't want it to happen again, see him doing the same mistake again. There was no resort. He was guilty.

"I have got a gift for you, fair girl..", he said, pulling the small, golden ring from his pocket. She didn't want it. He tried to convince her. "Take it." She denied.
He grabbed her hand, plugging the ring over one of her fingers. She screamed. He held her, tried to make her be quiet. She screamed for help. He was guilty. No resort.

The dream shifted again, the location changed. He was standing in front of his old house. It was burning. It was the moment his family died. He was back in Salkamar, seeing an event that had happened many years ago. Something was different, though. There was no one, except him and.. Gwendolin. She was standing on front of him. She was pale, but her hair was as beautiful as ever. It waved in the slight wind. Ascius could not speak. He swallowed. Gwendolin opened her mouth, but she talked with the voice of Samantha Meryadeles. She asked Ascius the same question Meryadeles had asked him a week ago. "Why did you do that?" Ascius took a step back. "Why did you do that to her? Answer! Answer!" Ascius shook his head. "I don't know!", he shouted. Gwendolin grinned and her voice changed to normal. She spoke slowly, but teasingly. "You were betrayed once in your past, Ascius. They took everything you had from you. You hated them. You still hate them for what they did. Now you have become just like they are. You are a murderer." Ascius shook his head again, stepping back. "No.. I am not.." Gwendolin grinned and took a few steps towards Ascius. "Oh yes, you are. The death of your family and the betrayal are no excuses for stealing the soul of a most innocent girl, Ascius." Ascius closed his eyes. "I know. There is no excuse." Gwendolin smiled and walked to Ascius. She placed her hands on his cheeks and kissed him. The kiss was tasting bitter. They broke the kiss. Gwendolin smiled to him, aspirating a few words to him. "You don't deserve my love..."

Ascius woke abruptly. He was nearly standing in the bed now, breathing heavily. Sweat was all over him. He looked around nervously. The room was empty and quiet. He could feel the whams of his heart in his chest. It had been a dream. Only a dream. Somehow though, the dream was true and the persons in it had been right.

He was awake now, sitting on the corner of the bed. He was awake, but somehow still asleep. He didn't know where it came from, but he kept hearing the same words in his head. These were the words of Maeve, shortly after he had brought her the "gift". The words were cruel. They were stabbing him like a sharp dagger. Unfortunately though, they were also true..

"You killed her. You killed Mairead, Ascius."
