Two Proposals for TrollsBane
~A Letter is posted in seveal places in and around TrollsBane~
To the Citizens of TrollsBane,
I am saddened to hear of yet another governor leaving. I did not know Governor Constantine, but as an outsider, I believe you are in capable hands with Lady Samantha Merylades as Magistrate. Many perhaps think her harsh, but that is what makes for a good ‘Judge’ of the Law. I believe she will do her duty by the people and aquiesce to their wishes.
I have read all the Laws, edited by Governor Constantine as well as the predecessors by Former King Fooser. Nowhere does it state that only citizens may be Governor. However, I felt a letter to you, the citizens was respectful.
I would like to be considered as a nominee for Governor of Trollsbane.
I am Mayor of the small but actively growing town of Greenbriar. I have helped it grow and seen many people take positions of leadership, of which I am proud. I feel that the time is right to offer my skills in management and diplomacy.
For years I have watched Trollsbane. Trollsbane, with all it’s trouble and turmoil, is still a vibrant city, central to the rest of Gobiath. I have seen, as you have, the never-ending search for ‘responsible’ people to manage the affairs of Trollsbane.
I have a proposition. No……A vision.
I see Trollsbane growing. Expanding not only as a City, but as a Kingdom, with dedicated and active citizens, each helping the other to achieve all they can. Property ownership available and encouraged, helping many to own their own homes. Taxes abolished in favor of free enterprise. Laws rewritten and maintained. A strong, paid and competent Town Guard to safeguard citizens. Activities and festivals planned and held for all. Relationships with other towns renewed. I also see guilds and towns joining Trollsbane, turning it into a grand Kingdom.
I know there are many good people of Trollsbane. Trollsbane has so much potential. I would be honored to help draw that potential out.
I know. An outsider would be unacceptable to many, however there is a reason for my proposition, for I have another proposition as well.
I also propose that Greenbriar join with Trollsbane as one Kingdom, stretching from the majestic copper mountains to the Western Sea. The land between already has been tamed, populated only with three guilds and the Trollsbane Docks. This is not a new idea, for a former Governor of Trollsbane had this idea before, but resigned from office before it could happen.
If I was made Governor, I promise to be fair, just and progressive as many can attest to in Greenbriar. My record speaks for itself. I have reverence for Law and Order, and do my best to protect citizens above all else. The past is now behind you. Only the future lies ahead. I believe I can lead Trollsbane fairly, not as an outsider, but as a true ‘Governor’, concerned only for the daily lives of people in Trollsbane & Greenbriar and a servant to all.
I would be honored to be considered for such an important position not only for TrollsBane’s sake, but for all of Gobiath.
Thank you,
In Service,
~Dusty Bottoms, Citizen of Gobiath

Mister Bottoms. We will for sure don't elect the leader of an other town to the leader of our town.
I am sorry, but we have to reject your candidation, as much as i appreciate your offer for support and help.
Just a citizen of Trollsbane will be able to be elected as the Governeur of Trollsbane. And that won't be changed for anyone.
Also, Trollsbane is no kingdom and we won't join Greensbriar into one. And i currently rewrite the laws already.

Dear Lady,
I wrote the proposals for all to consider.
I fail to see why the leader of one town rather than an 'inexperienced' person, wouldn't be better qualified to operate a town such as Trollsbane. A city the size of Trollsbane, requires someone of experience, for obvious reasons. As Governor, I would naturally hand 'Mayor' over to one of our several capable council members. There would be no conflict.
Personally, Lennier, of the Grey Rose would make an excellent choice, But I am unsure if he wants the job. Other than Maggie Kemoc in Varshikar, who also may not wish it, I see no other candidates of tested 'experience' and proven record of Progress, Relatability to all people, Legal management and Law Enforcement, all qualities which are necesssary.
I have even proposed a 'merging' of towns, so that there will be no conflict of interest. I have, in good faith, laid my soul and service upon the people of Trollsbane for them to accept or reject.
If it is rejected, I shall consider my duty done, and my conscience clear. I offer a viable and realistic solution to this problem.
Please do not so lightly cast it away.
I ask for consideration of these proposals in a fair and civilized manner. Trollsbane claims to be Democratic, Let the people decide.
Despite any opinions you may have about me, I do know how to smoothly operate a city and make it grow. In the next few months, Greenbriar will more than double in size, the supplies and people are already available. I have proven myself. I wish the same for Trollsbane. Do not dismiss my nomination so lightly.
As I stated earlier, I do this not for Greenbriar, or TrollsBane, but for all of Gobiath. That is my inspiration. That is my offer.

Mister Bottoms idea means nothing else than to hand over Trollsbane to Dusty bottoms and Greensbriar. We would give up our independence. It also would mean to make Dusty Bottoms king over Trollsbane and Greensbriar, which would mean an end of our democracy.
Trollsbane is a free and sovereign town, and it will stay such a town.
All his words can't change the fact that Greensbriar and Dusty Bottoms are an outsider force and shall never gain controle over Trollsbane.
As long as I am a citizen of Trollsbane and live there I will fight against anything that may threaten Trollsbanes independence and sovereignty.
Trollsbane is not Greensbriar, and Dusty Bottoms not a citizen of Trollsbane. We don't support and appreciate peacefull conquers.

Dear Lady,
You miss my entire intent. I don't understand how you could be so wrong about my intentions. How dare you look into my soul and try to poison it with lies. Anyone that knows me, can attest to far greater character and intent than you suppose.
If I remember correctly, you yourself, not more than a year ago, weren't considered a citizen, and even worked against the government and people of the time. I feel that you are letting your personal bias and ambitions cloud your judgement. I feel sorry for Trollsbane.
It seems there is no need for an election for Governor. Lady Samantha Merylades has already taken that position. She will do fine, but it is not a situation I would have preferred for the people there.
And by the way M'lady.......
You may call me Baron Bottoms, not mister, that is my true title. A breach of protocol on your part I have dismissed until now. My friends, however just call me 'Dusty'.
I will answer the people's call, not yours. Your job, in my humble opinion, is to respect their wishes, not your own. Otherwise, you need not be 'magistrate', instead you may as well be "Queen". The line between patriot and Tyrant is a slim one. I hope you don't cross that line.

It is currently my duty to organize a new vote for a new Governeur. While we have no new governeur i am fullfilling his dutys. I see no need in handing over our town to another town and its leader.
When I was fighting the towns leadership it were under Stephen Rothman, who was more a tyrant than a governeur. I fought for the towns good.
And "Baron" Bottoms, I remember very well the time when you had an alliance with the temple under Nalzaxx and threatened us with war should we fight against that evil and the threat it meant to us. So please apologize when i still can't trust you when you speak about taking over Trollsbane and leading it as king.
As long as I am the Magistrate the election for a new Governeur will go on. And it won't be concidered to gave up our controle over the town and hand it over to an outsider force.
By the way. May I ask where and how you obtained the title of a Baron? As far as I know halflings have no noble class and Greensbriar is still a town with a democratic leadership, and not a sovereign.

M'lady,
When you fought against 'Stephen' he was not a Tyrant. He was the town's 'elected' leader. Therefore by opposing him, you opposed the will of the town and put everyone there in harm's way. I remember well your words and actions, such as use of magic on citizens, etc. I have heard rumors that you continue to.
The alliance with the "Temple" of the time was solely out of protection for Greenbriar and it's citizens. There was no force at the time that could defeat it. The Temple never actually was defeated, it's leader simply abdicated. Don't chastise me for acting in Greenbriar's best interest for peace when even you could do nothing to save us. We made the best of a bad situation at the time. A situation that never should have been forced upon any city, much less a farming village such as Greenbriar. A thorough study of the facts will show this. Currently, you can see we are not 'allied' with the Temple anymore. The first alliance was from necessity, the second was a choice, and we chose no. That is settled.
As for my Title, it has nothing to do with Greenbriar, but it is my Title of Nobility, given honorably by a King and his people from the Mainland for services rendered. In my opinion, a 'granted' title is more honorable than one from 'birthright'. It was earned, and you will respect it in my presence as protocol demands.
I have been nothing but respectful, honest and earnest in these replies, but my patience wears thin answering you.

Dear Baron Bottoms,
I thank you for your offer to help Troll's Bane in these uncertain times. I thank your for your efforts in caring for this town.
Unfortunately, I must refuse your generous offer, due to the fact that the Governor needs to be citizen of Troll's Bane to be able to care for Troll's Bane's needs in the best way.
I am sure you understand that point.
Nevertheless I truely hope your offer of closer relationships between Greenbriar and Troll's Bane will be valid even after the new Governor will be elected.
Sincerely
~Siltaris~

Dear Anon,
Either I don't see the sarcasm in your words or you have a complete different perception of the current situation in Troll's Bane than me.
In the last weeks, Troll's bane have become a safe place. Lots of criminals have been imprisoned and overall crime has reduced.
In matters of freedom Troll's Bane still is and always will be a place where everyone is free to do what one want to do - as long as the town rules are regarded, which make a peaceful living-together possible.
So, I do really not see your arguments nor your intention to write these lines.
However, I doubt that Baron Bottoms can share enough people to do what you propose - furthermore Baron Bottoms is a man who hardly would use the mean of war to gain peace and freedom. Especially, when both already is there.
Sincerely,
~Siltaris~

Dear Captain Siltaris,
Yes, you are quite correct to Anon, and thank you pointing this out. Were it my intention to 'send in troops', I could gather the required force, but I would never do it. I will not succumb to that.
My offer was sincere and earnest in it's intent. I began my sojourn upon Gobiath in TrollsBane, conduct much business there, have many friends there still and consider it a second home. Since my voyage to the Mainland, I have returned with renewed vigor and an enlightened view of the affairs of state and a leader's responsibility to his people. Also especially how one part of Gobiath affects the others.
All roads lead to TrollsBane. It is the center of Gobiath. Affairs in Trollsbane also affect Greenbriar. By helping Trollsbane, I in turn, help Greenbriar. That is my motivation, I seek no 'conquest'. There is no conflict of interest there, and the people of Trollsbane can only benefit.
I have seen so many good people leave Trollsbane for want of a safer and better life. After reading these replies, I wonder if there are any left in Trollsbane to keep it alive as a viable town. Many visit, use and abuse Trollsbane, but are there any true citizens left?

To the people of Trollsbane,
After thoughtful consideration of the views expressed, the 'emotions' of some who have replied, and the lack of popular support from others, I shall withdraw my offer at this time.
I offered my services to help calm and create a stable government. That is still my desire, however I am apparently not the one to do this at this time.
I hope to assist the new governor any way that i can and perhaps brings some peace back to the land.

The thing about Troll's Bane is... it's become hopeless over time. Noone stays around the town anymore, the guards are never around if they exist. If they do I was certainly unaware of it. The guards are also usually temporary who have just come to Gobaith and are weak.
You have to do some things for your beloved town, whoever the future governer is.
You have to order the guard properly. Don't expect it to be done by itself. You have to remain active. I never thought I'd say it, but Stephen was actually a great leader for Bane. Although he went too far, into his rush to seize Gobaith, he was originally very good. He had Kallahorn, which defended the town. He was active, his subjects were loyal and active.
And lastly you have to find some way to attract people to Troll's Bane. Everyone's started to migrate or simply disappear off for whole WEEKS in the crypt, graveyard and mines. It's ridiculous when people would prefer to spend their time with the living dead than in the largest town in Gobaith.
Someone needs to fix the problems. I honestly wouldn't mind WHERE they came from. They could be loyal Troll's Banians or from anywhere else, as long as they sustain order and bring attention to the town.
Maybe it was correct when warriors were elected. They were respected by other warriors and hence were joined.
Maybe you need someone wise from every perspective to run the town. By this I mean someone who can order the town properly as someone aristocratic may wish and yet have the knowledge of mere peasantry, so they know how to deal with every scenario.
So it's up to you. Intelligence or brute strength.
OR:
How about a government. A governer is not meant to rule on his own, a governer is meant to be in a government of many. If you elected a young fighter, someone highly intelligent, someone streetwise, someone old and wise and someone very practical and put them on a panel with each other, they could work together to the advantage of the town.
