Suggestion: Save Button

Post by ogerawa »

Due to crashes and stuff with the server. Can we have a 'save button', altho in practice it'll be only pressing a key like F12 or something. This way, we won't need to actually logout and login again. Especially with the logout problem which i read that it causes the server to freeze.

With this functioning, it'll be like 100% our fault for the lost of items that we just get or skills we just achieved after hours and hours of doing something. Since it's our fault that we didn't 'save' every now and then.

I hope it's not been suggested by someone already. Well... sorry if it's been suggested :D

Just a thought....

Another idea......
Instead of another button, how about just tell the server to 'save' each time your char. opens a depot.

Just a thought.

But if the players could save there would be a chance that some players could "cheat". what i mean is if you went out hunting and got killed all you would have to do i save before you attack any monster and log out and it is like you never attacked it.

save - function would be only for the crashes.

Just log out and back in again....

We've been using it for years and it works fine.

Well.... it'll make the game more 'user friendly'. Logging out and back in again.... takes time. And since the game using java.... which i think kind of slow, reloading (starting up) the game takes so much computer resources especially for those who doesn't have a really good computer like me.

I also read that there were some log out problem which might cause the server to freeze (not sure if it's fixed or not). So log out and back in again numerous of times when the server is not stable might not be a good idea.

All i'm saying that it should be a good additional feature.

I don't like the Save Button, command, what ever idea. Since its possible to lag down the server with it.

The better solution is a save every few minutes.

That would be even better, since we won't have to do anything for this to be done. Hopefully it won't slow down the server since it's saving all the data at the same time when there are 50 people playing.

But yea, auto-save will do it :)

Hows about an autosave every hour or something like that.
Example:
Player 1 logs in at 13:34
Player 2 logs in at 14:10
Player 1 autosaves at 14:34
Player 2 autosaves at 15:10

Or autosave everytime you pick up an item.

You're right to find it a bad idea but for the wrong reasons. He says save as in save your items so they don't get deleted. You could, however, cheat by saving your items, giving them to a friend and waiting for a server crash. However, you could do that simply by logging in, giving them to your friend, your friend logs out and you wait for a server crash and get your stuff back... BUT NOONE DO THAT! It'd suck.

Well.... i was just sort of stating something that might be a problem if that's the way the autosave will work. It's better to said it earlier than regretting later on (especially in programming which is troublesome) So it'll be best if the logic of the programming is discussed before hand which I'm just mmm... trying to help make the foundation for the implementation. But apparently it's not really needed  Well at least not from me i guess, but there are others who can contribute ideas :)
