necromancy smells:P What is bloodmagic by the way?
Ok, How strong should magic be? Can we come to an agreement on this first? When we have, we can discuss magic resistance. Then in the end, people can say how they think a mage should be played. And then, please come with your views on Necromacy. Agreed?

Duchan is wise and smart, but he lacks the arrogance and is not at all stuck up. Would I play him this way, the whole character concept would be ruined. He is just a excentric wise guy. though it is easier to play the lunatic part-A Mage is supposed to be: Smart, knowing, Stuck up, arrogant, and wise

Duchan is a good mage, I agree. Now, let us discus the system.Asesino wrote:Duchan is wise and smart, but he lacks the arrogance and is not at all stuck up. some points on magic be:
Of course many of you have seen lord of the rings...the spells in there are excellent! you rarely see them, but they are quite powerful and used in extreme cases...
I hope you will agree with this or some ideas behind it at least....
- - Spells should take very long to learn and master
- - Mages need to be very good at rping
- - Spells are very rarely used or seen (only used as the last resort)
- - Spells are very powerful but...
- - Maybe they would take time to cast, and maybe would also require time for meditation before

I really don't want to see mages just running around and casting spells...by good rping i also mean that they would have a good imagination of how spells should be...how a mage would act...not something like 'hmm...i don't like you...*spell*' and such stuff...
or someone instead of walking...just teleporting there and here (which sadly enough you see alot...sorry for those who do but really, you shouldn't)

Cuthalion wrote:I agree, it is a nice start. We could get a great system working with this. I don't think the spells should take to long to cast though. tTe idea of two paths, The lower and greater way, is allso a good idea, in my opinion.
If spells did not take a long time to cast then mages would be stronger...they already got rid of the, if a mage is attacked while casting the casting stops.
That somehow reminds me of Silas...'hmm...i don't like you...*spell*'
Anyway, it all depends what you mean by 'be a good roleplayer'. There are MANY things that takes effect. Most people seem to only see the overall RP of the players (being able to make large #me often), but this is only part of what RP is. It is also if your character keeps to his personality, how you react to other's RP, the way its feelings are shown, the way of talking etc etc. But sadly most of these things are hard to notice.

These things you describe just people are able to rp to some extent, they do not mark out really good rp'ers. And as Lrmy says, how do you judge 'really good' rp'ers? And even if everyone loves their rp as a big strong fighter(possibly dumb), it might be because they, as a person might be just that, but they might be completely inept at trying to play a mage.abcfantasy wrote:I really don't want to see mages just running around and casting spells...by good rping i also mean that they would have a good imagination of how spells should be...how a mage would act...not something like 'hmm...i don't like you...*spell*' and such stuff...

Why not? Magic is for lazy people. If you are intelligent and have been gifted with this force; your whole life you have been dejected and ruled by the brawly hand of the fighter, you will take the easy life. Teleport everywhere. Threaten people. Know noone will dare lay a finger on you and if they do you'll destroy them. Use your powers to assist what you stand for. I see no problems with this.abcfantasy wrote:I really don't want to see mages just running around and casting spells...by good rping i also mean that they would have a good imagination of how spells should be...how a mage would act...not something like 'hmm...i don't like you...*spell*' and such stuff...

no that's not the way!! it ridicules magic!!
magic should be something divine...something rare...something to be feared of...
not something you see people joking with!!
if you go for magic...then you should be up for it...
I would also believe that magic would be something like help from the gods...a god accepting (if the situation is valid enough) to transfer some of his energy to the mage...

A god roleplayer is a guy who has been around here some time at least, and knows the rules well. he should allso not powerplay. (very important) Indeed Lrmy, it would make them more powerful. I do not mean that the casting should take shorter than it does today though..
but please. there where more points in that post than the good rper thing...

I didn't say joke with it. Teleporting with magic is just... well a convenience. There's plenty of mana in the stream to go round.
If you had a horse: would you walk 15 miles or ride it?

magic will become common to you with time, and you do not find it funny to teleport everywhere anymore. It is allso tiering, so why use more energy to teleoprt, when you can simply walk? the liking to threten thing, is somthing to be decided by the induvidual roleplayer.AlexRose wrote:Why not? by riding a horse, I would consume less energy of my own...by teleporting...I would consume more energy than walking

THing is you dont teleport 15 miles, only 15 tiles at max. Your example is void.
A real example of this would be, youre on an horse, you ride 15 meters, get down the horse, go back on it, ride 15 meters etc.
maybe we should get horsesabcfantasy wrote:If I had a horse, I would ride it...AlexRose wrote:If you had a horse: would you walk 15 miles or ride it?

Magic already takes long to master.Cuthalion wrote:This means that we all agree that magic should:
Take very long to master
Be (very) powerfull
Be rearly seen
Should take some time to cast
Mages should be at least ok roleplayers
Mages should be few
???
It is already powerful.
It shouldn't rarely be seen as long as mages are around.
The casting time is fine.
Magic can only be learnt by ok roleplayers already.
Mages are few. But there should be more than the current amount.
