Can't read German?

Post by Crosis »

Have you ever stumbled upon a post and wondered what they were saying because they spoke german? Here is a link to a site where you can translate what they are saying, just copy the address and place it in "Translate a webpage". You can then browse the forum and see it all in english. Its cool i recomend you check it out. http://babelfish.altavista.com/

I would not reccomend using this for posting messages in another language though, be it German or English as teh grammer is terrible.

You might try translating something back and forth, I translated "I hope this translation comes out good, but it will probably be jumbled." back and forth from english to german about 3 times and it came out "I hope this translation come from the good, but it is jumbled. " You could also try translating some of the german posts on the boards, it doesn't work so well.

I agree it's not very accurate but you still can get an idea of what is being said.

uuh, believe me, babel-fish have a terrible grammar ^^. he translate blacksmith into Schmied but not Schmied into blacksmith ^^ and so on. perhaps you can ask some friend who can speak german and english, this friend could translate the interesting postings for you ^^.

Google's translation tools seem to be fairly good. I tried translating the sentence "The main problem is, that those translation tool cannnot translate different grammar correctly." a few times, and besides the fact that it was not able to translate "main problem" into German and back into English the sentence remained readable.

Freetranslation.com does a lot of different language to language translations, and another random thing: why are there topics in english and the post is in German? I dont understand

I went to freetanslation.com and translated "i hope this translation works good" and it came out "I hope that this translation works well". Then I went back to bablefish and tried the same sentence and it came out "I hope these the good translation work". Seems like freetranslation.com works better.

English to German-I hope this translation works better than the others.

German to English-I hope that this translation works better than the others.

Seems this site is very accurate.

aye... all of those translating systems are somewhat inaccurate..
as i am a absolut google fan (since its the best search engine) i would stick with it..

nevertheless: i think we germans should try to keep our post english, otherwise we will have a crowing seperation of different communities.. although most of us might have problems to express themselves in a accurat way in english.. espacially in rp-cases.

Be careful using any computer translator. We had cases here where people got very angry at each other, because a normal (non offensive) posting of one player has been translated via computer and resulted into a text, that was so hard to read, that it could be interpreted as something very offensive.

I use freetranslation.com, but I review the text with my average english skill, before I post it.
