Carrying no money is quite difficult if you want to pay something.
Anyway, the really intelligent thieves managed to provoke situations where they could slip a knive under ones cloak unnoticed
Obviously they didnt, as thiees was very regualr... @Alex, true, they might, but it is musch less likely dont you think? And you could just run without havein to respond to descs like, I take your arm and force you to the ground, when you really was succesful?
I think one should at least carry som money, one would in a real medival world. I agree, it is smart not to carry any money, but please do=) If it was this was real world, you probably would carry some. I am not talking much money, just enough so a thief and you can do some nice rp. Maybe like 30-30 copper or somthing?

I got it!!!! A perfect solution! There should be a delay! People who are really bad at thieving can steal and the other player would see the item dissappear 6 seconds later and the server would say.
You just notice that your [item] is missing! And this second delay could give others time to run. Or.. the delay could not depend on skill but rather server randomization. Sometimes the player could notice right away or sometimes after a long time?[/quote]
More on this please? I want to know what Nitram and the devs think about this.
@Someone who posted earlier
30 SILVERS! Man the people you stole from were MEGA GENEROUS or you just stole so much times your drowning in money.
Dude, why does everything have to be a skill? You have heard of RP right? My bard earned all her money from her rping and me making up songs and dances for her to do. Not once did she 'use' her lute during a preformace. And she still has her starting money + over 250 in earnings.
Some things are just more fun to rp out. If I ever create a thief I'd rather have them rp out the whole thing than go 'right click + steal'. A thief should get their money from rping the thieft well, as if it were a way of saying, you are a good rper, you deserve to have something.

Swish is not the onlyone coming with those...
Well, I agree that rping is fun (obviously as I play this game), but in all great rpgs it is a skill behind it all. Have you ever play DnD for exampe? I agree that one should rp when one steal, but there should also be a skill behind it. This way, a thief can get better, as everyonr else. Somone earlier in the thread made a joke about rp'ing fencing. I think that was a good point. Everything could be rped...

Heh. Heh heh heh. Adrian and I play DnD over MSN; we do know about thieving skills.
Thieving just isn't required until the leave of the remaining good players and the rise of the noobs and then the ptp and the rs resemblance and the 0% rp and need for thief skill.

*Paladin beats the sh*t out of the man with the blackjack* And stay down. *hits him ten more times than was necessary* Sorry sir how is that bumop on your head are you alright? Now that I broke every bone in his body lets put him in the jail for a few months until we can bring him to trial then we will get him some medical attention...
True, but there should be a diference betwen the good rpers as well. Like in sword fighting, how well you rp should not deetermine how well you fence. When you rp the stealing, isnt it enough that you and your victim have a god time during the rp? Do you really have to receive money as a bonus?
The point is, the skill won't help. The bad rp'ers will just turn as soon as you rp to steal and rp seeing you and then attack you, or move away from you, or log out
Not sure if i understood what you ment there Skalib, but I think so.
I believe it at least help. It is also much easier to report a giu who logs out if there was a thieving skill. Now he could just ignore you.
