3 Suggestions

Post by Llama »

Suggestion Group 1: Unarmed fighting

1) (again) Unarmed fighting is disbalanced, a good unarmed fighter is no match for a person with a blade, with much less skill then s/he has. Its not so much as "you have no weapon at all, so you should be a weakling"; but a person trained in unarmed fighting SHOULD be almost equal; take the monks of tibet for example.

Also, in other to balance it out, i suggest a way to:

1) Stun opponents
2) Disarm opponents
3) An increased chance to critically hit, since its pretty much what you're aiming for each tyme.

2) Could we have some weapons which use wrestling as the skill? I know it seems contrary to what might be expected, but I beleive that they use more skills which you would learn fighting unarmed (such as a martial art) then fighting with them

a) Katar [Punching dagger]
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katar

b) Leather bound strips
Speaks for themselves, hurt a bit more

c) Sai
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sai_%28weapon%29
Not a dagger, can be used in multiple ways, requiring the skill and abilities of a person in unarmed

d) Quarterstaff
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quarterstaff
I suggest it not use 'Concussion weapons' since concussion weapons are swinging a mass of somethign at the enemy, this is used differently
=======
GROUP 2: Critical hits

I suggest a little addition to critical hits

To head: You take -1 (temp) penalty to perception
To chest: You take -1(temp) penalty to const
To hands: You take -1(temp)penalty to dex
To legs: you take -1(temp) penalty to agility

These should last a while, to make them significant, oh and they stack
======
Group 3: Ham

I dont lyke how ham is made, its far too simple, and every person and his dog can make it; so i suggest, making it how its SUPPOSED to be

You will need: Salt , Meat

Use the meat in the smoke oven, will use 1 salt as well
-
How to get salt?

FIll a bucket with SEA water, when it evaporates (1 rot cycle), you'll have salt (oh and your bucket)

Just read the unarmed thing. I do not like it because it is easy enough already to gain levels from wrestling skill and if it can beat armed and armored opponents it discourages people buying weapons or armor from craftsman and then no one will be a craftsman. It is fine the way it is. You can almost never parry or dodge a hit from wrestling and you hit very fast. That is enough.

So a person who chooses to learn to fight unarmed of his own free will, will never be as good?

its not the balance because its 'free'; you can't wear heavy armor or you'll get destroyed (lack of dodging), and you need to take care how fast you train... so it balances out in terms of learnign tyme VS cost

Added: (for misj) - Ham is made using salt you know O_o, in RL i mean

You don't need to wear heavy armor to be protected. There are lots of different armors and all of them have different wieghts and some are light and have some good protection. Try and test them out before you say you cant dodge in any good armor ;)

The staff wants to simplify the crafting system, not make it even more complicated.

I'd rather have ham stay as is, i like the critical hit idea, not really caring about the unarmed combat

point 1:
a person must be really in the yellow part of unarmed combat, to even think about fighting an armed person.

point 2:
i like that idea!

point 3:
forgeddit! i killed my own browser based RP game, by over-complicating it. we had more and more to click, with every realistic idiea of mine.
untill at last people just clicked without roleplaying.

Word.

Perhaps someone fighting without weapons should stand a chance against a person without any armour. However, armour (In particular the metal ones) should mean death to the martial artist..

In a wonderland where everybody is the strongest man in the world, it's hardly an issue.

Besides. I doubt you have taken into account that wrestler will have 1.) hard time parrying any blows without losing limbs 2.) have hard time hitting the armour without breaking own bones.

we have discussed this before it not all head on punches and chops wrestling covers all unarmered combat meaning also those that use weight and force against you as well as bending of limbs and going for places between armor.

I like the more common crit idea.

1. good yes needs to be done, though as someone said you would need like 40% of max more then the guy with a weapon to be equal.

2. good, i like. i get critical hit on your leg with a sword you most likely wouldn't have a leg left so it stands to reason it would slow you down.and critical hit on head should do MASS damage. either getting knocked out from concussion weapon or in the case of swords, your head is simply gone or dagger well you have a 6 inches of metal in your skull.so

3. Nah, we can just say that there is salt there already. just creat a static item that looks like a pile of sand and put it next to the oven. or a barrel with a white top or something like that.

What you are forgetting here is that this is a wonderland. And I'm not sure you would have you be that strong to push anyone over if they are say off-balance, which is likely if you have just dodged an attack.

Oh and, I dislike the preconception that a wrestler should automatically lose to a heavily armored knight. Remember how you said a similar thing about mages and fighters.

That of course depends (on the factors I've discussed here before. I'm sure you remember  ). I was generalising (well shoot me, it's late here).

However, you should consider some of the advantages the armoured person has. The weapon drastically extends the reach of his attack, thus enabling for him to keep the unarmed opponent at bay in normal circumstances. The unarmed person must rely on opponent's mistakes at least as much as on his own skills.
The unarmed person will need to hit exactly the right spots to cause damage (unarmoured spots, head, neck) which probably requires close proximity.
On the other hand (unless the unarmed person is also armoured, in which case he has no dodge/speed advantage over the armed one) the armed one is able to seriously maim him by simply blocking his attacks (or the martial artist could very well injure himself by punching a steel plate) not to mention attack by himself.

While catching the person off balance could be possible, it depends on the other factors as well. Such as, if the armed person is dual wielding (It's just fair to assume that we aren't talking about any fist vs. rusty knife situation) the exploitation of such unbalance becomes rather hard as the armed person is able to keep one of his weapons as "defensive reseve" used simply to counter the attacks by the unarmed person.

So yes, it should be possible. Sure, I have no objections in general about making the system more exciting, but not by simply shrugging "he'll just knock the armoured person over and end of story".. (as it IMHO requires quite playa character to be able to pull a stunt like that off) The critical hit increase might be good way to deal with it, as it incorporates the "luck" in nicely. The stun and disarm could very well happen in any combat, so I don't see any need to implement them here in particular.

Oh, I also dislike your preconception that armed and armoured fighters should become everyones' bitch in the game.

I have to take the armed fighter side on this one. If you're looking at the issue from (a very limited) 'realistic' perspective, it simply doesn't make sense for any weapons to have been developed if it's just as effective knocking people over and holding them in uncomfortable positions. Maybe I'm poorly informed, but I don't think any nation in history that had access to weaponry decided to rely on unarmed combat styles instead. If you look at all these examples of groups using martial arts, it's because they're choosing to abstain from armed combat. Most martial arts were developed because of a limited access to weaponry, or an incompatible belief system, not because they were better at killing people.

Ham is easy to make but guess what it has the possibility to poison you. That is why it is so easy because it has a negative side effect. It is also good for real pure noobs. Makes things easy for them. Me I never eat ham I always make sausages with it. I prefer not to get poisoned, or take that chance for it to happen.
